Grishma Udani what? u didn't like this book?!!

Apurva Nope.. Pretty bad writing.
It has a decent plot (which I guessed half way along the way) and hence the two stars. Else, I would have given it one.. :)

Quoting a comment I posted on another review:
"Yeah, I had a similar experience reading this book. Everyone recommended it but it was full of bad writing and caricatures instead of characters. Even the character of Lisbeth that he spends so much time does not come alive for me. Do not think I will read his other books.
The trailer for the new movie starring Daniel Craig has a scene that is considerably better written than the book.
Blomkvist: They [referring to his notes on his laptop] were encrypted
Libeth [book version]: I can download a software from the net that can crack Word's password protection
Lisbeth [movie version]: Please..."

Grishma Udani weird.
it's a bit long winded but, nothing else wrong with it.

As for characters, I didn't find them caricatures at all. Though after reading his other two books, his first book feels more like a prologue. As in its only 2nd book onwards that the real story of Lisbeth starts.

Apurva hmm..
I might read the second book but if his writing does not improve, I probably won't finish it.

Grishma Udani second book is the best of all three. It has a much better story, mystery and is all about Lisbeth. Think you will like it. [Third while nice, is the most stretched of the three novels].

Also, you have to remember these novels are translations :P

Apurva says you who gave 4 stars to this book. :)
I do not think it is a translation problem. Things like inability to flesh out characters are part of the source material itself.

Grishma Udani yes, coz there was stuff which I really liked ...I did feel it was stretched and skipped stuff which was needlessly stretching it (but I skipped most in third and almost nothing in second and some bits in first).

I didn't think fleshing out characters was a problem...I did feel Lisbeth's character wasn't done enough justice to in first but, I felt that more coz of the misleading title (which makes you expect a story of Lisbeth which actually begins only in the 2nd novel).

Did you have issues with characters other than Lisbeth?

Apurva I think none of the other characters were properly developed and end up being caricatures. It is just boring to read one description of someone after another...

Grishma Udani oh! thats a sweeping statement. i didn't feel that.
