Stuck at home? Got some time on your hands? Want to start a long series? But you don't want a dud?

Check out this all about which series are worth your time (and which ones aren't)!

Here's the Written Review!

description
Can you hear me screaming?

As expected, the illustrations brought this book toa whole new level.I legitimately want to buy another copy, solely to take it apart andframe it.

Each page is just bursting with new life.Honestly, how could younotlove such beautiful images?

description
Hogwarts, Hogwarts. Hoggy Hoggy warty warts.

I think at this point, everyone and their great-great-grandmother has heard of this book.

Harry Potter, orphaned before he was one, was sent to live with his Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon. He was always a bit ofan odd child- much to his family's dismay.

Things just...happened...around him. Like when he was running from bullies and jumped to the school roof. Or when he got an atrocious haircut (courtesy of Aunt Petunia) and all of his hair grew back in a single night.

On his eleventh birthday, a letter comes to him anda whole new world opensin front of his eyes.

In short - I LOVED THIS ONE. I thought I loved the Harry Potter books when I first read them, but when I bought the illustrated version...well, that love instantly quadrupled.

The fully illustrated Philosopher's Stone still has all the wonder and amazement as the boy-turned-wizard embarks on a harrowing 7-book-adventure and the illustrations bring a whole new dimension.

Seriously, I can't emphasize enough how much I love this book.Just look at these images - they're magnificent:

description
Ahh! Just look at sad, tiny Harry. Don't worry kid - life will get better!

Not only are thesefull-color, high quality imagesbut there are somanyof them.

Often, illustrated books have a picture here or there but not HP. There'spages and pages of pictureslike this - and often the pages without full-sized images will have a small illustrations here and there between the large ones.

Words cannot express how highly I recommend this one. If you haven't read HP recently...Istrongly urgeyou to check out this book.

The fourth one - hands down! Love the dragons and all the tasks. You have no idea how much I'm dying to get my hands on the fourth illustrated version. What about you?

Thank you! And i totally agree. It took my breath away. So much effort went into illustrating this book :)

Leila Truly wonderful pictures Miranda, yes, thank you for sharing the ones here. I would love this edition on my own book shelves.

Barbara I particularly like the illustration of Harry's cupboard. Gives a wonderful picture of the things Harry might have treasured. And the spider of course.

AHHH! GO OUT THERE AND BUY IT (or get it from the library!!). They're up to the 3rd HP book now - all beautifully illustrated - it's a whole new way to experience the magic!!

Olivia's Bookish Places & Spaces Great review! I'm always impressed at how the right illustrations can take the story to a new level.

Julie G Miranda,
I just bought the first book in this illustrated series, and I can already see that I will probably be purchasing all of them. That's normal though, right, that we will have 3 different sets of the Harry Potter books??

Miranda Reads Julie wrote: "Miranda,

I read your comment, and I was like - THREE? That's a bit much..

And then I did some counting of my own:

1 set of paperback
1 set of hardcover
1 set of the audiobook
1 partial set of the illustrated versions (HP1-3 + fantastic beasts)
1 partial set of the 20th anniversary editions (only book 1...but all four houses)

Oh gosh. Does this count as an addiction?

Julie G Ah, you see the problem then. Yes. . . one set of the series in hardcover (the first editions), one set of the series in paper (so my lovely children don't muck up my beloved hardcovers) and now the illustrated version.

It just. . . makes sense.

Miranda Reads Julie wrote: "Ah, you see the problem then...It just. . . makes sense."

LOL to that. My paperbacks are my originals (from when I was a child) and they are suitably scruffy :P

And the audiobooks are...simply magical. LOVE listening to them...and who could resist...

Sigh. Isn't it a sign of insanity to be doing the same thing over and over? Is buying the same series so much count?

Julie G There might be a *slight* insanity involved, but, it's harmless. I also have 3 sets of LeGuin's Earthsea series, and, again, it just feels right.

Oh, and three copies of The Shipping News, because I'm pretty sure that book is my soulmate.

Catherine Yes, I have the same problem. In french I have the mass market paperback books, in english the paperback box set, the illustrated books (1-3 since book 4 will be next year), the first 20th anniversary edition (only my House though) and apparently it's not enough at all because I'm still looking for THE hardback edition in english. There are only two available at the moment, but I don't really like one of them and the other is the same box set I have in paperback version. I'll probably end up buying this one and my mum will try in vain to make sense of that crazy behaviour.

Julie G To Catherine: it just makes me respect you more. . . (but, I've probably already established my own insanity on here!)

Catherine Julie wrote: "To Catherine: it just makes me respect you more. . . (but, I've probably already established my own insanity on here!)"

Thank you Julie ;) Well, when it comes to HP, I think you can't be held accountable for your actions, which is indeed close to insanity in legal terms, but makes you a great person for me.

Tatevik BTW I remember that the kindle version of this edition has animations. Didn't try myself but would be really cool seeing the train moving or Hadwig flying!!!
