Again, absolutely amazing! And I loved it even more after reading The Year of the Flood!

Even though Margaret Atwood's Oryx and Crake was absolutely amazing, it took me a few readings before I was ready to review it. Like many of her other novels, Atwood presents events leading up to her dystopian future with a cold logic. How the characters participate in these events as well as the world of the 'crakers' (which comes after humanity) makes this story truly memorable. It can be a little difficult following events in the beginning; however, it is well worth the effort. Atwood's stories have a lyrical quality which really fits the new mythology which is being created in her new world. Her character's transformations are equally compelling. I will be rereading this book and reading the rest of the trilogy.

Ms.pegasus Yes, I had the same feeling when I first started this book. I've learned that the best way for me to proceed is to read a few chapters to align myself with her direction, and then start over again to pick up the nuances of her writing. She is one of those authors I always feel I need to read twice before I can actually write a review.

J.L. Sutton And I always feel Atwood is giving us more layers than we can easily pick up on a first reading. This is okay because I never mind going back and rereading her novels.

Beverly I want to reread these two J.L. I really enjoyed them the first time. Great comment!

Thank you, Beverly! I'm already enjoying the reread of Oryx and Crake. It would have been fantastic on its own, but the echoes from The Year of the Flood are making it even more interesting. So yes, this a great one to reread and I think The Year of the Flood would be as well.

Beverly And you're right, there are layers within layers in her writing that you don't always pick up the first time.

Really good books should not be a one and done thing either. Thanks Beverly!

spikeINflorida I've been debating for years whether to read this or not. Your enthusiasm has got me intrigued.

Count me in the Atwood fan club as well! I'd read two or three of Atwood's works before Oryx and Crake, but it might well have been this book that sealed it for me too! Thanks Monica!

David Putnam Great book

Very true J.L.!

Agata Olejarczyk Whenever I read this trilogy again, Oryx and Crake I read last, it seems more fitting that way :)

Very interesting Agata! I will try it that way next time.

Jennifer Welsh I loved this one so much, but didn’t read it again after Year of the Flood - interesting idea, J.L. I plan to read the third one soon, but it’s been so long since I’ve read the others.
