Ikkenoe I read your comment at work and laughed out loud... It's a tough one to explain in a room full of 11th and 12th grade students taking a test on Africa.

Anna Nicole Smith & Wesson woe is us

Kim Gross Foster I agree wholeheartedly! A really good (and well read) friend recommended it to me and I wanted to stop by her house and smack her with the book. Really? Pompus, self-absorbed LSD tripping, writer.

Rb1985 I feel like he has wronged me from behind. :(

Bobbie B. He has wronged us all.

message 6: by Lisa (new) - rated it 1 star

Lisa Stites And what is wrong with us?

Douglas Personally? Really? Indeed, he set out to trash you personally nearly 30 years before you were even conceived. Makes a lot of sense.

message 8: by Shannon (new)

Shannon Rochester That review made me laugh out loud. I am 50 pages away from the end and I am not sure I have ever looked forward to finishing a book so much. So I decided to look at other reviews to see if it was just me. Nope...

Dennis Venning This review is the best thing about my entire experience of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance

Andrew Cheong I was about to write a review, but then read this one, and I'm satisfied.

message 11: by Phil (new) - rated it 3 stars

Phil Hughes Of all of the reviews that I have read about Zen and the Art over the years, this is BY FAR the best one.

Elizabeth Sims This is why GR is so valuable: I have loved this book for years, yet reading this blunt, one-sentence review makes me, somehow, tremendously happy.

message 13: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Juniper Great review. Haha! :D

message 14: by Miss V. (new)

Miss V. Absolutely love that turn of phrase.

Have you ever read “Zen and the Art of Archery? I think you may just love that book.

Patrick Maybe, but that doesn't make it bad literature worthy of a 1 star rating. You should change or remove it if you are an honest person.

message 16: by Donna (new)

Donna Craig Best book review EVER! I haven’t even read this book, but I’ve felt that way several times about other books.

message 17: by Andee (new)

Andee Love your comment! I’ve heard similar things about this book. Gary told me he tried to read it years ago and it was virtually impossible...that it’s just nonsensical and torturous to the reader.

message 18: by Lucio (new) - rated it 1 star

Lucio d’Amico Patrick what a lad, you’re a legend! Really hope that you consider ourselves on the same page - I am desperate to be included in random people definition’s of merits. Btw your attitude simply prove the point, that the book is not for everybody cheers for that

message 19: by John (new) - rated it 5 stars

John Hall I started this book years go. In the early 2000’s. Yes it’s hard to read. Especially the middle parts where he’s going over the actual time Phaedrus is grappling with defining Quality and loosing his mind in the process. Keep on fighting through it. The latter parts will prove it is worth the read.

Brandy Tanner This is how I feel about Catcher in the Rye.

Sarah Maybe you don't like it not because it's "bad" but because you are not receptive or conscious of the truths it holds. Maybe your mind cannot comprehend such truths. I would caution you to dismiss something you don't understand as nonsense. There is a history and background to this book. There's a reason it is so widely praised. I don't think you did yourself any justice by not delving into it. If you don't put thought into then you will certainly not get anything out of it.

Ladyfilosopher Personally?! Wow! those squiggles on paper really captured you, usually a sign of a good writer at work. Touched and triggered some intimate areas of your inner self, eh? hmmmmm..... culture shock about the slippery quality of the Western veil of authority? Iconoclastic terse statement! quite in line with the message of the transversal thinking philosopher. Peaceful stretching of mind and its muscles is never really comfortable. You are not alone in the pain of being in this world, but feeling betrayed by the messenger is really not where we have to look for betrayal .

Proteus Morrill As much as I like ZAMM (yes, really) this review makes me laugh.

Jordan This is my favorite review on this site.

I still think about it sometimes.

message 25: by Joel (new) - rated it 4 stars

Joel So you're taking things personally just because someone else has a different perspective in life than you do?

message 26: by Zak (new) - rated it 5 stars

Zak Boston Child, when you realize the fight of our lives is against the dark side of ourselves, you will begin to understand

message 27: by Emil (new) - rated it 1 star

Emil Atlas I wish I could retweet this

message 28: by Joe (new) - rated it 3 stars

Joe Hill I love this review and I also love how many people it triggered. I was just triggered by seeing a t-shirt of the book cover and remembered how much I was disappointed by the book.

message 29: by B (new) - rated it 5 stars

B Why?

message 30: by A. (new) - rated it 1 star

A. D. Amen.

Jordan Gregory-Wallis This review made me cry with laughter.

message 32: by AH (new) - rated it 2 stars

AH This is hilarious. I had such high hopes when I started but honestly couldn’t finish it. I loved the travelogue style passages and the relationships displayed in the book but the hundreds of pages of philosophizing got old really quickly. And I like philosophy more than most! I found myself starting to skip all those parts in search for some dialogue or sensory descriptions but finally said forget it. Staring at the percentage calculator on my kindle and how slowly it moved forward was painful. This was the first book I have not finished in a while.
