A Court of Frost and Starlight (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #3.5)

Sarah J. Maas returns in full force with her novella, “A Court of Frost and Starlight, meant to pick up where the last novel “A Court of Wings and Ruin left off.
Feyre, Rhysand and their court are trying to rebuild the Night Court after the wars all but destroyed them. At the same time, the city itself is alive with the celebrations for the festive season of Solstice. As Feyre reunites with her family for her first Solstice as part of the Court, she quickly learns that there are still those who have not healed from the damage caused by the wars and Feyre begins to question if there will ever be a way to fully heal.
This novel should only be read if you have read the other “Court of Thorn and Roses books. This is not a standalone novel and will be impossible to follow without a previous understanding of the storyline and characters.
As excited as I was to read this novel, not a whole lot happened. I was thrilled to see the return of many of my favourite characters, and learn about their lives since the last novel, but there wasn’t a whole lot of drama or action going on. In fact, those who are expecting the gut-wrenching suspense and pulse-pounding fight scenes from previous novels will be desperately disappointed.
“Frost and Starlight highlights the relationship between Feyre and Rhysand, how they have grown together since the wars, and the relationship between Feyre and her sisters. If nothing else, this novel is a short read, and a really easy read at that. It is entertaining, and a reader will easily be drawn into Maas exceptional storytelling.
The magical land of Prythian, and its inhabitants, continues on in yet another installment (release date TBA) and it will be a full-fledged novel, (or so rumour has it) I eagerly anticipate its release and will definitely devour it.
I highly recommend “Frost and Starlight, for serious fans only. Otherwise, this novel does not do justice to the series as a whole.
