"The most humble Russian novel I have ever read. Just a brief slice of life, delightful and touching, and skillfully told. Quite unexpectedly I cried, a tear or two, at the end. I can with complete confidence recommend this book to anyone who likes to read. A masterpiece."

But I'm not sure what the book was about; and I'm not sure exactly what about brother T's writing was the most endearing quality? It was a very pleasant experience! Of that I'm sure.

I really liked this one.
I was completely unfamiliar with it, so every page was a surprise!
Great fun. Good read. Good book.

It's quite something for a mid-19th century Russian novel. Certainly out of the common groove (as Bloom would say)!

Thank you, Greg!
With complete confidence I would recommend this book to everyone!

I was in a group that was talking about it one day, and I discovered a copy of it at home that I didn't know I had or where it came from, but consider it fateful and read it, and found it quite wonderful!

I think it's true that Fridays do land also on this earth (thank goodness) ;-)

I read this last year. It was my first Turgenev. Since then I've also read First Love, Spring Torrents, and now I'm working on Hunters's Sketches. I really like this guy. He so less aggressive than T. or D.

I should re-read it sometime, too. But nowadays, my newest companion Jose S gives me too many sunny days to look out for other back-ups ;-)

Hi, MihaElla! Nice to see you too. Yes. Thank goodness for Fridays!

I agree! I think reading books is much better for warming us up than for cooling us down. - ))

Very nice to meet you. A lovely book, especially for a Russian. I even got a little misty at the end.
