it was ok
bookshelves: could-not-finsh

This book has laid on my nightstand for long enough. Sadly, I bought the other books - because when I started this one I really thought I would get into it. This one will be joining the other two on my bookshelf until I can give them away.

I gave it two stars because of the premise of the story line. It sounded wonderful, but the writing confused me and is way to dry for my liking. I have no desire to finish or re-read this book and give kudos to people that love it. Glad someone did!

Wade I've always wanted to read this!

Tony It's a very tough read! I bought tickets for the musical. It gave me 3 weeks to read the book before the musical and I still couldn't do it. I saw Wicked on November 2nd and I think I picked this book up once since then.

The writing is hard to digest. And I find myself constantly having to look up words to see what they mean.

The musical was wonderful! The soundtrack is awesome! But this book however, will be the death of me! I will finish it though. But i am in no hurry.

Wade Ah! Good to know. I tend to be a slow reader unless I really get hooked. I LOVED the musical. Saw it on Broadway 2 years ago with a friend. I think my heart was pounding the entire performance.

Tony The book is completely different. I have been wanting to see it for years now and when I heard it was coming back to Nashville -I jumped online and bought the tickets. I started reading the book a couple of years ago but never got through the first chapter.

The book is very dark compared to the uplifting story line of the play. In the book, I just don't connect with Elphaba. I love the character on stage. And the humor is awesome on stage - but there is very little to no humor in the book. And if there is, well than i just totally missed it. lol.

Wade when I am in a dark mood, I'll pick it up!

LOL... I WRITE dark all the time. Sad, depressing, heavy crap... I am not sure Wicked is what I need when I am down there all the time. I DO want to read it! Maybe if I write a comedy in the future I will have balance. Thanks for your insight. :) And glad for the "friend" request ;)

Tony It's a strange kind of dark. I don't even know if I would call it dark... how about gray? It's a dark shade of gray. A few parts really grabbed my attention... but then 75% (of the first half - mind you) I am scratching my head and wondering what the hell it has to do with anything!

When you hit your comedic stride and decide to pick it up - let me know what you think. Perhaps it would motivate me to finish it!

Although there are also rumors that they will be making a movie - maybe that will help push me!

Nik OH, I saw wicked on Broadway back when Idina Menzel (hellllo Glee! :P) was Elfaba and Kristin Chenoweth was Glenda....it was amazing. Wicked is my top 3 favorite musicals.. *love*

Tony Anne Brummel and Tiffany Haas played Elfaba and Glenda in Nashville. I have seen videos of Idina and Kristin. I loved them - but Anne and Tiffany definitely held their own! They both had amazing voices!

I can't wait to see it again!
