Airel: The Awakening (The Airel Saga: Book 1, Part 1)

I wasn't going to start my review of Airel by mentioning the cover. I always seem to to start a review gushing about how awesome the cover is. But seriously.... Look at it!! Who wouldn't want to read a book with a cover that looked as good as that!! Absolutely stunning!!
I was very interested to read a book written by two males telling the story from the perspective of a teenage girl. And to be honest whilst reading it, that aspect didn't even enter my mind. I think they did a fantastic job portraying Airel. Sometimes when you have two authors collaborating together you can end up with a mish mash of a story, but this flows and blends beautifully!!
This book is written as two differing stories. Airel's story in the present day and Kreios's story from 1250BC.
Airel is your average teenage girl dealing with average teenage girl stuff. And then Michael Alexander enters the picture .... If I had to find one negative with the book, it would be that I didn't feel there was enough development in the building of Airel and Michael's relationship and feelings for one another. To me it felt like they had just met and then the next minute they were in love.
Kreios is an ancient warrior, loving , strong and fierce and I really enjoyed reading his story.
Aaron Patterson and Chris White are very descriptive in their writing and I had no trouble visualizing the scenes they were describing. The build up in the storyline in the final chapters was intense and gripping and had me sitting on the edge of my seat!!.This is a book that I thoroughly enjoyed and the teaser at the end for book 2, Michael has me looking forward to reading more.
4.5/5

Quotes Tracey Liked

“I always had to buy a book, even if I wasn't done with the one I was currently reading. I loved to read. I felt like the trun of each page echoed between the covers of the world inside them-and each book had its own rules. There, within the mystique of that connection, was something special, and I was an addict.”
