The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium, #1)

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo started out slowly for me, but the writing was easy enough to follow that I didn’t feel bored to death. Once this story picks up, it really picks up though. Trigger warning: rape and sexual assault. There’s quite a bit of mention on the topic of sexual assault and rape throughout the novel so if that’s something that triggers you, I would say this novel is not for you. The murder mystery aspect of the story was rather interesting and has a lot of pieces to the puzzle.
Salander was, although awkward and antisocial, a likable character to me. Mikael is apparently some sort of lady killer that women just throw themselves at, but oddly doesn’t come off as some douchebag. There is a slew of characters to keep up with throughout the novel, so just to prepare yourself to make a mental family tree.
It almost felt like the story had two endings. The unveiling of the Vander’s family secrets in Hedestad felt as if the story was coming to a close, but you’re left with 100+ pages. Then you get Mikael’s ending as a secondary ending.
I felt the story as a whole could have been edited to keep some unnecessary length out, but it was an enjoyable novel and I look forward to reading the second installment in the series. I would also like to note that I’ve never known anyone to drink as much coffee and eat as many sandwiches as the characters in this book.

I think the second book should be better than the first one somehow and giving the fact that we are already familiar with the characters it should be easier to get into it this time. I also have the second and third ones in my TBR pile.
And yeah, I do love coffee too, I wake up every morning happy to think that I can make my coffee and drink in bed, but seriously, that much coffee is not good for one's health 😂
And also, that much coffee - I know right??
