Barry Pierce forgive the sentence-long review. I had written an in-depth one but goodreads just... like... didn't post it... so I lost it. but this sentence sums up all of my thoughts.

Elizabeth funny!

Rebecca Alston Same here !

Cynthia Agree!

Diane Flowers Lol!

message 6: by Jeannie (new)

Jeannie This book could only be termed 'fast paced' for sloths. I was stuck listening to it while I worked--for 4 hours NOTHING HAPPENED. Then, maybe, something happened, meh, who cares? Cannot endure any more. Will not finish it.

message 7: by Samar (new)

Samar Reddy is it like gone girl?

Katie Ann I couldn't agree with you more, thus was a cheap knock off of girl on the train.

Kelly (and the Book Boar) Hahaha! I don't know you, but that made me chuckle. I'm pretty sure she was gone on a train too ; )

Kathy OMG - that describes how I feel. I'm about halfway through it, and skimming it now because I just want to see how Anna gets out of her mess.

Naomi Campbell Gould Seriously! Why am I wasting my time? I want to like it because of the hype BUT terribly underwhelming. Could be 50 chapters shorter.

Sherry Totally agree. Poorly written and predictable.

message 13: by Laura (new) - rated it 1 star

Laura Deger I have about 50 pages left, and I can't stand it! It's hard to get excited about any twists (although no big surprises so far) when you can't stand the main character and just don't care anymore.

message 14: by MIJA (new) - rated it 3 stars

MIJA Mood

Samantha Dumas Agree! I just want to see when they finally realized she wasn’t crazy. But I was bored from the beginning

message 16: by Jean (new) - rated it 2 stars

Jean Mandella Ah ha ha! I agree. I almost gave up thinking NOTHING is happening... then I just wanted it to be over. Hard to like the character, didn’t line the choppy style and I guessed most of the surprises.

Tyler I'm halfway through it and so fed up with this character. I'm struggling but trying to get to the finish line. ugh.

Rodrigo Oliveira HAHAHAHA same here. I'm 81% done and I can't take it anymore, so boring

message 19: by Crystal (new)

Crystal Camarata Totally agree!! I'm ready to give up but I would feel like a failure versus the authors failure to write a compelling story that is original.

Rodrigo Oliveira Crystal wrote: "Totally agree!! I'm ready to give up but I would feel like a failure versus the authors failure to write a compelling story that is original."

I finished last night and, well, the end is horrible

message 21: by Greg (new) - rated it 1 star

Greg Me too...gone....gone with the girl on the train.

message 22: by Lynn (new)

Lynn Blackwell I liked Girl on the Train and Gone Girl. I did not like this book. It was a cheap copy. Spent way too much time with details, too little time on a good plot. I managed to slug through it, hoping I would be wrong.

Heather I wanted to slap Anna and tell her to get it together.

Aoife Sullivan funny

message 25: by Manda (new) - rated it 1 star

Manda ❤️🙌

Elnora Bracey I agree I became tired of this wine guzzling character. Annoyed me as much as gone girl and goldfinch ugh (couldn’t get into girl on the train) guessed most of twists. Wouldn’t recommend it

message 27: by Justine (new) - added it

Justine Lol YASSSSSSSS! Haven't read this, but your review is the best thing I've seen on goodreads so far!

message 28: by Justine (new) - added it

Justine Update: I'm going to have to read this now, based on your review alone.

message 29: by Anne (new) - rated it 1 star

Anne Dragovcic I absolutely hated gone girl and the way the author portrayed her main character. This book is insufferable. Now I know it’s not worth finishing.

message 30: by Greg (new) - rated it 1 star

Greg To all: read Cornell Woolrich's "Rear Window" from the 1940s. It's the one made into the Hitchcock film with James Stewart and Grace Kelly AND her sensational wardrobe (yes, it's a character, and it's a beauty.). Anyway, exact same story only a man is trapped in a house cause he has broken his leg and is in a whelchair. For fun, he looks at the neighbors, sees a wife, then she's gone.....etc....then the villain finds out he's been watching and gives him a visit. EXACT SAME STORY but without the football-sized garden on top of the brownstone where the villian chases the lady through gazebos and hedges but the top floor of a Brownstone in that area was probably no more than 800 sq. feet or so: I found the final scene in Finn's book hilariously impossible.

Greg I could only give it 1 star cause it's "Rear Window", a novella from the 1940s, and nowhere near as good. How Finn got a 7-figure advance is beyond belief. (And if you haven't read Cornell Woolrich, you must, he is one of the best of the noir authors.) I think I'll redo "Rebecca", call it "Rudy" or something...cause I need a million bucks...really, I do.

message 32: by Lisa (new) - rated it 1 star

Lisa OMG so many of you all have named a book or story with the same plot. How is this fast paced and new. I am almost done. God I hope there is a twist.

message 33: by Monique (new)

Monique LOL! I generally avoid any book with 'girl' in the title.

Cheryl I was happy to see this comment. I did not give up on this audio book soon enough and decided to forge through, what a mistake. The story was 'bits and pieces' of too many borrowed places. It was told in such a convoluted way with absolutely no pay off. Was hard to complete it and I only gave it a 2 star because I did tough it out and finish it, it was my own bad choice to continue on, I felt misguided by the 3.97 rating it was given.

Greg Barry wrote: "forgive the sentence-long review. I had written an in-depth one but goodreads just... like... didn't post it... so I lost it. but this sentence sums up all of my thoughts."

Barry, I always save reviews twice because the same thing happens to me. As soon as I click on "Save", I go back and click on "read" and "write a review" and then click on "Save" again and then the review is visible. And if I'm rambling I might 'save' a review half-way through then go back and finish it so as not to lose a long review that some day in a galaxy far, far away, some one might actually read the whole review. (So I write for myself: it's good practice and people still need to know how to write complete sentences....oh, great idea...dystopian future where there is no longer any written language and then....)

message 36: by Greg (new) - rated it 1 star

Greg Jeannie wrote: "This book could only be termed 'fast paced' for sloths. I was stuck listening to it while I worked--for 4 hours NOTHING HAPPENED. Then, maybe, something happened, meh, who cares? Cannot endure any ..."

Jeannie, the author was desperate that no one notices he cribbed the fantastic "Rear Window" so he made a mess of it.
And got a 7-figure advance!

Maria Couldn’t agree more! I was tired of the character halfway through the story. Pretty predictable.

message 38: by Shannon (new)

Shannon I read about 100 pages and gave up. It was so boring. Too much talk about Anna, her wine and her watching her neighbors through her window.

message 39: by Amber (new) - rated it 1 star

Amber Yes, I totally agree with you. The book is soo long and drawn out, it’s dreadful. Even the end didn’t captivate me.

Julie Pease Yes, a couple too many twists and turns, but I still enjoyed it. It was a good book as an audiobook, because so much was Anna’s thoughts.

Lani (I’m here for the books) Mine too! I just had to finish it because I’m not one to leave a book unread. But I have no idea how this book won 2nd place in ŷ Best Books of 2018. Major let down.

message 42: by Lisa (new) - rated it 2 stars

Lisa Thank God... I thought it was only me... I found it concentrated too much on Anna’s substance abuse, her thoughts and constant drinking, I found it quite exhausting, and I feel I need to take some temazepam etc just to get over it all! I found it hard to complete as I felt it didn’t flow at all, but I did as I never give up on a book!

Candy So accurate!

message 44: by Rosa (new)

Rosa Thank you all for these cold water in the face comments - I’m 200 or so pages in and what a meh this story is - so glad it was a free download - why were there so many laudatory recommendations from other authors? I kept waiting for something, anything, to intrigue me.

Sherril A Suspense Novelist’s Trail of Deceptions

You MUST either read this or listen. You won’t believe the possible truth about A. J. Finn. i. e. Dan Mallory.

Mahala Awesome review! I feel the same. 190 pages in and I don’t even want to finish.

Ichiban186 It was sadly so cliche. I knew her husband and little girl had died as well as the fact that Ethan had killed the woman from the get go. I skipped so many pages of tedium. The guilt, the self imposed flailing, utterly senseless. I skipped to the end just to find out who won the battle of the psyche. 🤯
Don’t understand how anyone could think this was a great read.

Ichiban186 Sherril - Wow! Thank you for that article. I will be sharing that with book club!

message 49: by Danae (new)

Danae Robertson I’m afraid Anna drove me nuts, ‘Take your medication properly and stop drinking I was yelling all the way through. And I had guessed the outcome about a third of the way in. Shan’t be seeing the film, sorry!

message 50: by Morgann (new)

Morgann Buttz I’m having such a hard time finishing the book. I restarted it just to be sure I didn’t miss anything...I didn’t. Glad I’m not the only one!
