it was ok

This book starts out VERY engaging and remains that way through the first 3/4. Then, very abruptly, it is as if Allende ran out of things to say, or rather, became distracted by another project. The book ends TERRIBLY! The last 1/4 is a slog to get through and, becuase the first part is so wonderful, I kept reading and thinking "surely, this will work out." But no joy. I would suggest reading it BUT don't hope for a great wrap up at the end. It is a lot like drinking a cold bottle of Coke on a hot day - everything starts out all fresh and fizzy and delicious but by the end of the bottle, it is just flat and luke warm.

Brenda I have to agree with you about how this book ended so abruptly, and I felt with several loose ends, otherwise I liked it very much and may try another one by this author.

Kathryn Agreed! It was a little anti-climatic. But since I enjoyed most of the book so much, I'm willing to bob my head side to side and say "true, but I still think it was a worthwhile read."

Nuriafdez It doesn't end! It continues with portrait in sepia

Kara I love your bottle of Coke analogy! :)

Julia very well said !!

Isabella It continues with portrait in sepia and then with house of spirits. It's not a stand alone.

Cathy I agree with you thoughts on this book. I have found so many other authors, I have recently read, start off interesting and have trouble with endings. Your right they may get distracted by thoughts on their next book.

Maria Perdigon I totally agreed with you!

Jair Solis Totally agree, first 3/4 the book was great, it all went down from that point.

Christina M Agreed though I had a tougher time hanging in while reading the book halfway through. It was like there was so very much being told but somehow not enough to keep me engaged. Still, I do like Allende. I will try the next book of the Trilogy.
