I'm exhausted after finishing An American Marriage. Not the breathless feeling after a great thriller, but emotionally. I was invested in Roy, Celestial, and Andre.

Roy and Celestial are newlyweds with great jobs. The future looks bright until one night Roy is arrested for a crime he did not commit and sentenced 12 years for that crime he did NOT commit. Here's the thing that really bugs me: Celestial knows he didn't commit this crime. *not a spoiler* She fell from my likable characters list. It has to be hard to hold a marriage together facing 12 years apart and I do admire Celestial in how she manages. But then she finds comfort in Roy's best friend Andre...you know this can't be good. But wait! Roy's sentence has been reduced to 5 years and he's coming home to his wife. Will she be there with open arms to pick up where they left off?

I like how the conflict Andre felt about Celestial and telling Roy was written. This is the point I started to feel the climax coming and not knowing how it was going to end. I loved the ending and what a ride to get there.
