** spoiler alert ** WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT. HOLY SHIT I AM SO MAD.

Like what did I just read? Was this even the same author? How can an almost 700 page book be so god damn boring?????

This has been one of the biggest disappointments of 2018. Where was the action? THEY WERE AT WAR. MULTIPLE PEOPLE FROM DIFFERENT SIDES. LIKE GIRL, DID YOU NEVER READ GEORGE R.R. MARTIN?! Can I get a refund?

Ps. I had to edit my review because I finished this over a month ago and am still upset about it. I realized I like NOTHING about this book so why would I not 1 star it. Usually I leave that for books I DNF but lezbehonest I almost did that a handful of times.

Okay. I just can't even believe this was a finale on a 4 book series. I would have honestly rather stopped reading at King's Cage and just have the rest of the story be a mystery instead of...whatever this was. I almost DNFed it many times. I actually did this as my first ever buddy read and couldn't even keep up because I was so bored and kept putting it down. Shout out to Hamad for putting up with me. ***Insert tag here because I still don't understand how to tag anyone hahaha***

I haven't been this upset about a book in who knows how long. Let me get more into detail about more things that were terrible. If you haven't finished it, don't click.


(view spoiler)[I have never loved a main character so much in the first 3 books, then turn around to hate them in the last. I did that with Mare. Could not stand her in this one. She was a completely different person. She was so whiney. Her annoying obsession about Kilorn...like Staaahp being all omg he's so fragile. Just stfu. He's a big boy. Stop dragging him along in the friend zone. How can he even honestly be considered a main character in the story when most readers completely forgot he existed???
Next issue. The extremely boring plot. Nothing. Happened. Even when they were "fighting". How can people with magic abilities be so bland? Even badass Evangeline was boring! How is that possible? DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON IRIS' POV. Trudging through that was worse than eating chalk. I don't think she needed to even be in the story TBH, but then she gets her own POV? Her power was WATER. MAVEN WAS FIRE. LIKE HELLO YOU COULDN'T MAKE THEM FIGHT JUST ONCE??? MOVING ON. I could have also cared less about what happened to Cal in this book. Plus his and Mare's "relationship"? Can you even call it that? How about the fact that there was also waaaaay too much detail for every single little stupid thing. No wonder it was 700 pages. Was there a specific word number goal because it could have been summed up in less than 100 pages. What about Jon's random part in the book. I thought she honestly forgot about him. "Hi, sorry you can't breathe well, don't let Cal win, lots of blood and blah blah k adios." Dafuq? He had so much potential. And. Maven had his OWN CHAPTERS. THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN AMAZINGLY DARK AND TWISTED AND THEY WERE GARBAGE. Even the way he died was done in like 6 words. I had to reread it to even make sure he was dead. Ughhhh and don't get me started with the crown bullshit. Cal gave that up in what? 1 sentence? After 3 books of fighting for it? How. Then Mare just being like k I forgive you acting like nothing happened. I'm over it. (hide spoiler)]

Note to those who haven't read this yet. I am sorry, but you will be disappointed. Brace yourself. Or just don't read it. Because I still cannot fathom how this was even considered a finale.
