City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments, #2)

*i just realized how most of the main character kids have nicknames... also Clary is genuinely so overly dramatic. and please stop telling me how handsome Jace supposedly is!!
this book felt kinda messy in a way (that was definitely not the right word) where things happened for this reason but it ended a different way. for example: the Seelie Queen requested a meeting with Clary, Jace, Simon, and Isabelle (also can we just think about how a Queen of a powerful race wanted to meet with 3 random kids??) saying she wanted to talk about Valentine. they went there and the whole meeting lasted about 10 pages and they barely talked about the war. it was pretty much Clary, Jace, Simon, and Isabelle saying that the Valentine was dangerous and then the Seelie Queen replying how it wasn’t her problem.. this meeting turned out to be completely unnecessary and did nothing except add on to the love triangle between Clary, Jace, and Simon which has no relation at all to the real plot.
also, throughout the whole story, it didn’t feel like there was a real transition between events. it kinda all happened at once. like, something would suddenly happen out of nowhere, and then that caused “this, “this, and “this to happen. and then that same sequence would happen again.
honestly, this book felt more focused on the issues between Clary, Jace, and Simon rather than the upcoming war of Valentine and many angry demons. i swear that the first 300 pages were just about events that kept creating a wedge between Clary and Simon which is something that i couldn’t care less about and does not help anyone from defeating Valentine.
