it was amazing

[Buddy Read with Martin]

Having watched a good amount TV crime series, it's typically quite hard to get me excited about a crime/mystery story. I have also never been typically very intrigued about the mystery element of the story in the past M/M mystery/crime novels that I've read but this, this book actually has me hooked on it! The plot is well crafted, with multiple elements of surprises and suspense thrown in throughout the whole book. The febrile atmosphere constantly keeps me on the edge of my seat and desperate to find out what happens next.

The main characters of the books contain a lot of depth with colourful backstories and history, and the relationship development of the characters, albeit slow, was excellent. I really enjoyed reading the dialogues between Levi and Dominic as they slowly start to fall for each other. I can't get enough of these two and definitely look forward to read the next few in the series!

I would also just like to add that I really like the cover of this book! Definitely a plus point for me :)

The next portion of the review may contain spoilers!

Levi
Levi is a character with a troubled past and can be a little edgy at times. I really wanted to love him more but it was hard for me to do so as I was somehow not attracted to his character. It was especially hard for me to like him when (view spoiler)

Dominic
Dominic is a big, tough and muscular guy (that I totally have a thing for) but is also humorous, caring and sweet at the same time. I really loved his backstories, funny anecdotes and how he overcame his gambling addiction. There's nothing I don't love about him, and he has captured my heart very quickly from the start. I just love him so much!

Levi and Dominic complement each other very well, and the sparks and chemistry between them is undeniable from the start. I love how considerate and mindful they were of each other near the end of the book, and the moments between them were really sweet. I also LOVED (view spoiler)

There was a minor detail in the appertaining to the story which bothered me, which ultimately made my bump down the rating a little. It seems like that they were very understaffed to carry out the investigation properly so I didn't understand why they didn't seek help from external agencies like the FBI. Also, clearly Dominic was a person of interest in the case, but there was no form of protection aided to him, nor was there any investigation carried out to find out how he was being tracked??

The story reminds me a little of the TV show 'The Mentalist' with a long running protagonist like Red John.
Ms Cordelia Kingsbridge really managed to produce this amazing story with her brilliant writing. I hope that she will be able to sustain the quality that she has produced here, because this has definitely the potential to become one of my top favourite series!!

Martin I absolutely agree, Adam!! I love your review and your thoughs on Levi and Dominic. They're such great characters with so much potential for the subsequent books!
