What an amazing book! As a huge Connie Willis fan, I had been wanting to read Passage for a long time and it didn’t disappoint. Willis manages to surprise the reader with every book she writes as she explores diverse styles and subject matters. She also has a talent for finding the comedic potential of the least likely situations. I don’t want to go into a detailed review of Passage so has not to give spoilers about what happens in the book. Suffice it to say that Willis exploration of Near Death Experiences (NDEs) is complex, profound, amusing, full of surprises, shocking and riveting, all at the same time. It’s true that this book stays and resonates with you long after you finish reading it. Well it did with me anyway! The only reason why I didn’t give Passage five stars is that the pace of the book slows down quite a bit near the middle, mostly because of the repeated comic incidents involving the hospital’s maze of stairways and corridors. I’m glad this didn’t stop me from reading for the best was yet to come. This is definitely the best book I've read so far this year and I highly recommend it!

Eilonwy I can't believe it's taken me this long to get around to reading this!
I think I've just gotten through the slightly draggy middle part -- the hospital maze, avoiding Dr. Mandrake, and never-really-talking-to-Vielle parts have felt very repetitive -- and I'm pretty sure a big twist is about to come. Connie Willis definitely keeps me on my toes.

✘✘ Sarah ✘✘ (former Nefarious Breeder of Murderous Crustaceans) I'm so happy that you're reading it!:D This one is definitely one of my top three favorite Connie Willis books, with TSNOTD and Doomsday Book. I can't even remember the slower parts of the story now. I think it's the kind of book that grows on you weeks and months after you finish it:) You're really making me want to reread it!

Can't wait to read your review for the book:)

Eilonwy I'm really glad you loved it, because it's got awfully mixed reviews here. I've just gotten past (view spoiler) which was completely unexpected, at least by me, and has made up for some of the dullness because (view spoiler).
It's funny, because yesterday morning I was looking at how many pages I had left and thinking, "Will this book never end!" and now I'm thinking, "But I'm going to be sad to be finished!"

✘✘ Sarah ✘✘ (former Nefarious Breeder of Murderous Crustaceans) That was a real shocker, wasn't it?! And now you understand why I rated this book 4 stars despite the dullness;)

I'm not surprised that there are mixed reviews for this book. I've found it's often the case with Connie Willis. People usually either love her or just don't get why the fish others love her so much, haha.
