it was amazing

Really inspired by the work of Bankim Chandra Chatterjee. Books like this make you think deep. Lovely translation. I am sure it must be better written in Bengali with a deeper meaning and better style. Translating Vande Mataram as a poem in to English is unreal and can never have the magical touch as Sanskrit. Vande mataram sounds better than Mother I salute to thee. The narrative of this book is based around a holy man who inspires and motivates people to forgo everything for India's independence. The story revolves around Bengal famine. This book bring the concept of Mother India. It was revolutionary and this personification of India as a mother truly would have galvanized the youth of those times. Must Read.

Vande Mataram!

Niranjan It was inspired from the story of Maratha warrior and father of Indian revolutionary movement Wasant Rao Bhalwant phadke. Bankim has to edit the novel for 5 times or more because it didn’t please the British masters

Maybe i am not sure. Anandmatha was published in 1882. By that time Vasudev Balwant Phadke jee was 32. And you already know the amount of time it take to write a story. Or maybe he was inspired from this great man. By the way i would love to read about Vasudev Balwant Phadke jee. Send me any book regarding him.

Phadke, has sieged Pune city in 1875 itself and he was captured and transported to jail in Aden in 1879, where he later died in 1883, by that time his age was 38. This tail has also took inspiration from sanyasi rebellion, initially it was banned by British.
There was no popular book available about phadke in English, I have also read about him from RC Majumdar’s, ‘history of Indian freedom struggle. May be you can try in Marathi or hindi.
