it was ok
bookshelves: fiction, read-in-2020, adult, adult-sff

I’ve been meaning to read this book for years, and now that I finally did, I feel the sort of acute disappointment that comes from wanting something for so long that the eventual achievement of it is a loss.

There are many things this book does well, but in the end I'm not sure Station Eleven was the book I really wanted it to be, though it was undeniably itself.

Mayasser I thought the characters were plain, and their stories weren’t as broad as I hoped they’d be

Angela tbh I thought it was Just OK

Kaycee Leigh Ugh, it sucks hard. I DNF @ 47%

Garrett I’m at 72%. It’s been so easy to lose myself in it.

Ania I agree with your rating. Don’t understand the hype of this book. Not a fan

Katie I feel so apprehensive about this book for the reason you said. I have no doubt that it is a good book, but is it a good book FOR ME?

chai (thelibrairie on tiktok!) ♡ Ania wrote: "I agree with your rating. Don’t understand the hype of this book. Not a fan"

I don’t think it’s a terrible book, but it’s definitely not the book for me :/

chai (thelibrairie on tiktok!) ♡ Katie wrote: "I feel so apprehensive about this book for the reason you said. I have no doubt that it is a good book, but is it a good book FOR ME?"

Yeah, exactly. I just did not vibe with it lol

BradburyTree Thanks for this honest review, I was going back and forth on picking this up or not as something was drawing me to it and pushing me away. I think I'll wait longer as I have a thousand books to read already.

I felt the same way! I’m glad I read it, though; if anything, The mystery surrounding this book is now gone 😅

message 33: by Toby (new) - rated it 3 stars

Toby Hi....finished this an hour ago; fully agree with you. So much cliche - so banal at times!

message 34: by nat (new) - rated it 5 stars

nat Right?? I keep thinking about it every day lately, wow

Whitney I keep thinking about this book lately, and it freaks me out!

Garrett I had just started reading it as news of the coronavirus began to come out if China. Definitely amplified everything for me.

message 37: by Cass (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cass Same! I think about it every day!!!!

message 38: by Eliza (new)

Eliza Adler I revisited Fever 1793 and cringed so hard

Emilee Your edit! Same,I keep thinking about this book and just got on good reads to see if I thought I liked it or not. 😂

message 40: by jay (new) - rated it 2 stars

jay LOL bro me too. I just started this book last week and, after I fished the first section, I just went, "uh oh"

message 41: by Toby (new) - rated it 3 stars

Toby Completely agree with you - I really didn't get all I wanted from Station Eleven; it could have been so much deeper.

message 42: by Mia (new) - rated it 2 stars

Mia It's painful to pick up this book and try to continue reading. Thats how slowpaced and boring it is.

Brandy I just started this book and it is so relevant that I got creeped out and had to put the book down for a minute! It scares me!

Abigail This is one of these things you either love or hate. I found it sooooooooooooooo boring. Honestly didn't care about any of the characters. Got a third of the way through, should have stopped earlier. Kept waiting for something to happen.
Obviously I'm in the minority.

Dorian I am 90 pages deep and I don’t know if I can go any further. Came to look at reviews here to see if it would change my mind... Unfortunately I think it’s going to be a DNF for me 😔

Emmie I had trouble finishing it. I only did because people said it was so good and because I wanted to watch the TV show. So far, I've found the show to be better than the book.

Kristina @Emmie and @Hannah, I also thought the show was better, which never happens to me.

message 48: by Chela (new) - added it

Chela At 65, maybe I’m a “young reader. What I mean is, even though reading this during the Covid pandemic, and being an avid consumer of dystopian fiction, I was so disappointed that the parallel threads were not tied into a bow of mutual recognition at the end. I was listening to the audiobook, with kudos to the narrator, but it all felt a little slow to me. No regrets for having “read it, but just a little disappointed.

Jordan This book was so bad it almost seems good

David Cuen I really enjoyed it and even enjoyed the HBO adaptation. Well written, clever, intimate.
