it was amazing
bookshelves: re-reads

I love Rick Bragg. I love his family almost as much as he does. I love his writing. I suspect that most of us have working class roots and can relate to elements of this family's story.
If you haven't read this author yet, give yourself a treat and run to the bookstore or library. If you have, then you are nodding your head in agreement.

Howard I have read this book and the one about his mother, but have never read "The Prince of Frogtown," which is about his father. Have you?

Wyndy Like Howard, I’ve read ‘All Over But The Shoutin’ and this one. Rick Bragg is in a league of his own when it comes to writing about his family and his roots. I’m nodding my head in agreement.

Diane Barnes Howard, I did read "The Prince of Frogtown". It's very moving, but his father is just not awarded the love and respect that his mother's family receive from him. Understandable, because he abandoned his sons and wife and spent all his money on liquor instead, but Bragg did try to understand why.

Diane Barnes I know you're a fan, Wyndy. Hard not to be when you appreciate great writing. The man is a master.

Tucker Great review Diane. I've read all his "family" books and also listened to them. Because he's such a great narrator, I'd recommend them over the written books - but either way - they're fantastic.

Diane Barnes I did listen to his southern essays on audio, but with audio books in general my mind tends to wander so I prefer print. You're right about his voice, though.

Tucker I have that same mind wandering problem too!
