Oh my God, what a MINDF*CK! When I thought I read CoHo at her best, she manages to surprise me with yet a better book than the last one. Hands down the best psychological thriller/romantic suspense I've read to this day! She has mad skills for this. I LOVED IT.

It's not scary, it's eerie, it's disturbing, it absorbs you, it kept my stomach in knots. I loved it from the start. You have no time to get bored. The story gets right to the point and then so many things happen, that you keep guessing and doubting yourself and what you initially thought was true... and when you get near the end and you decide that it was a great thriller, in the last pages you read something that turns you upside down. Mind-blowing. It's been two days since I finished it and I can't stop thinking about it. I really do hope Colleen will continue writing thrillers.

A few favorite quotes:

"He gathered the rest of the manuscript and tucked it to his chest. He was going to read it, and all I could think about was stopping him. I didn’t know if it was any good, and I was scared—terrified—that it would make him love me less if he thought I was a bad writer. I dove across the bed to try and reach him faster, but he slipped into my bathroom and locked the door.
I beat on it.
“Jeremy! I yelled.
No answer.
He ignored more for ten minutes as I tried to pry open the door with a credit card. A bobby pin. Promises of another blowjob."

"Her fine hair lifts in the breeze, like the fingers of a ghost are playing with the strands."

"An unsettling energy buzzes throughout the house. It’s always here, and I can’t seem to shake it. It seems to be getting worse at night, nocturnal and intense. I’m sure it’s mostly in my head, but that doesn’t put me at ease, because the things lurking around inside the mind can be just as dangerous as tangible threats."

“No one is likable from the inside out.

“Take care of your physical being. Feed it what it needs, not what the conscience tells you it wants. Giving in to cravings of the mind that ultimately hurt the body is like a weak parent giving in to her child. “Oh, you had a bad day? Do you want an entire box of cookies? Okay, sweetie. Eat it. And drink this soda while you’re at it. Caring for your body is no different from caring for a child. Sometimes it’s hard, sometimes it sucks, sometimes you just want to give in, but if you do, you’ll pay for the consequences eighteen years down the road.

“Some families are lucky enough to never experience a single tragedy. But then there are those families that seem to have tragedies waiting on the back burner. What can go wrong, goes wrong. And then gets worse.

“The good thing about sins is they don’t have to be atoned for immediately.
