Cecilia I've read it thank you. Of all the different branches of Islam and all different philosophical commentaries, I've always enjoyed the Sufis the most. They compare beautifully to Taoism and Buddhism. Thanks for your recommendation! :)

thanks for your reply and your thoughts, i have a copy of the tao te ching i keep in my lunch pail, it is a transalation by david hinton and i was wondering if you had a translation you prefered. i would give it a whirl, there are so many versions and your recommendation would be awesome, thanks

Hey Daniel, yeah, this is tough as Tao Te ching is so esoteric, even after being taught classical chinese since 2 yrs old by my grandpa..it is not so simple.

However, try this translation, done by a Hong kong linguist, drawing on the works done by other chinese translators from NYU, Monash etc.

It is my preferred reference if I have to look at ways of translation ideas from Tao..but luckily I can read it in the original.
