it was amazing
bookshelves: own-paperback, library-kindle, horror

To think this whole horror show would almost certainly have been avoided with a simple rabies vaccination. Poor, neglected Cujo. And all he ever wanted was to be a "good dog."

Thank you, Debbie! ♥️ This is the one King novel I have steadfastly avoided for years since I always get emotional when hardship comes to animals (especially cats and dogs). Well... It's certainly 'bout time I sucked it up - because it's darn good! 🤩

I can relate, Tracy! It reduces me to a puddle faster than a popsicle on a summer sidewalk. Some books just worth it! 🖤

Adrienne L I've avoided this one for the same reason you mentioned (doggies 🥹), but maybe you'll inspire me to get over it and finally pick this one up.

Thank you, Adrienne. It's reassuring to know other people feel the same way. On that note, gotta say It's so much better than I could have anticipated. 👌🏽

Darla Most famous dog in fiction? Infamous? I read this one in the 80's and it is memorable! Enjoy, Tracy.

I'd say he's both famous and infamous! 😂 Definitely not one I will forget either, Darla. Thank you so much! ♥︎

Erin Tracy, I’m still with your first thought…I adore King but there’s no way I can read this book. He only wants to be a good boy. Nope. I’m getting a little heartbroken even thinking about it. Thanks for reminding us all, though.

Em The vaccine didn't used to be required by law. This was written so long ago during that time. But agree, with age the premise works less. Still King's writing always gets me--and his colorful characters

message 16: by Adrienne L (new)

Adrienne L I'm glad you loved it Tracy, but I think I'm with Erin - I just can't bring myself to read this one. I was scarred by Old Yeller as a kid 😉! And to think there are still people who don't vaccinate their pets against rabies 😒.

message 17: by Jamie (new)

Jamie Aww, poor Cujo. 😫 This book traumatized me as a teenager, lol. Great review, Tracy!

message 18: by Ron (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ron My first King which remains a favorite. Much feelings for that dog, and Tad too.

Interesting! I did not know the rabies vaccine were still not required by law as recently as the 1980's.
Agreed. King never disappoints! Thank you so much for your comment, Em! ♥︎

Understandable, Adrienne! I still can't read 'Old Yeller'. Your are right. I'm sure there are plenty of unlawful owners who still don't and/or won't vaccinate their pets. Sad. Thank you so much! ♥︎

I bet, Jamie! It would have devastated me at that age. Thank you so much! ♥︎

I hear that, Ron. Tad was such a little trooper, too. So glad to learn this was your first and (still) a favorite King novel. Definitely unforgettable. = )
