Read 2 times. Last read May 21, 2020 to May 22, 2020.
After re-reading the whole series (I skipped Taryn’s novella), I’m returning my rating to 5 stars. Coming down from the hype and demand, and also reading it almost as one long book, it really satisfied. I’m overjoyed to leave my favorites so happy (except Taryn) and on a path toward better.
I’m so glad I did this re-read!
Edit
Now that I’ve slept on it, I’m changing my rating to 4 stars, maybe 3.5? No, 4. Why? Because it really needed more! More deception, more Cardan, dare I say more violence! Less whiny Taryn, though. Also, less handed to us readers and more for us to figure out. And as much as I didn’t mind that ending, I would have given piece of my digit in exchange for more shenanigans in Fairy.
4.5
This was one of my most anticipated books this year and it was worth the wait. Even when I had two hours left to listen, I was still unsure of how it would all wrap up.
As with the previous installments, Jude, Cardan and Madoc are up their schemes. Maybe it was my anticipation but I found that all the political plots were much steeper and dirtier in the previous books. Not to say that they weren’t good in here, they were I just expected a bit more.
I enjoyed Madoc in this book. He is always such a thorough threat to a happy course. I took pleasure in seeing him with Jude once more, him always being the voice in her head. Even the worst guy, I cannot help but enjoy him.
I also loved the Jude and Cardan storyline. These poor kids are so used to being chess pieces. Their cruelty to each other became sad to me at certain points but damn if I enjoy their relationship. The book(s) would be so boring otherwise.
My pettiness rears it’s head only where Treacherous Taryn is concerned. I’ll never forgive her for what she did in the previous books!
I have a few questions about the curse and all that jazz, but mostly everything wrapped up nicely with a warm, fuzzy feeling! Over the holidays, I’ll read all three (and a half) once more!

Haha! I'm glad I'm not alone in my uncertainty. I think what is tripping me up is I did enjoy the book but maybe I didn't enjoy it as much as my high hopes would allow me to accept. Oh well!

I liked the ending but still wanted more Cardan+Jude & deff agree Treacherous Taryn (love me some alliteration 😍 ) got away way too lightly! That is probably my biggest bugbear - although I fairly verbal vomit'ed many more thoughts into my spoiler tagged review 🙈 🙊
It's interesting seeing all the reviews come in on this & glad I'm not the only one rather torn about it lolz

I'm still so torn though!! I think I will read all three, hopefully before year's end and see how I feel then. But I will always be unsatisfied with Taryn, ALWAYS!

Yep, exactly!

Love a good reread, especially a series like this where we can hopefully spot even more breadcrumbs & clues along the way 🤩
I'm not ready for a reread yet, but have no doubt I will pick the series back up one day...but hopefully I've nothing more to say about this last book as I've no characters left to edit that review 🙊🙈🤐

I imagine you can spot some space! 😆
I’ll definitely do another reread too, maybe for Cardan’s novella. It’s such a happy place for me.
