it was ok

Sometimes books are not up to our expectations, and this was the case regarding The Woman in the Window and me ..... I did want to enjoy it, I really did! But I felt tired & disappointed by the story and by Anna Fox. She suffered a great loss and she had my sympathy there, however, I didn't connect to her. The story tself dragged on and on, and I actually could put this book down. In fact, I had to return it to the library, and I didn't miss it, which told me a lot about how I felt about it. I didn't miss it at all, and then, when I could finish it eventually, I did so but just out of the respect for the author .......

Jenna ❤ ❀ ❤ I had another friend write a similar review to yours a few days ago, Beata. Sorry you wasted your time on it; I've removed it from my TBR list. Thank you for an honest review!

message 10: by Barbara (new)

Barbara A honest review. Beata. Thanks for sparing me.

message 11: by Beverly (new)

Beverly I think I am going to pass on this one, as I've heard sketchy things about the author lately. Great insights Beata, especially the part about having to return it and not caring.

message 12: by Paula (new)

Paula K Hope you next one is better, Beata!

message 13: by Judy (new) - rated it 3 stars

Judy I had the same reaction as you, although I rated it a bit higher. Still a disappointing book.

Richard (on hiatus) Oh well ........ upwards and onwards :)

message 15: by Mark (new) - rated it 3 stars

Mark Great review, I too felt the same

message 16: by Barbara (new)

Barbara A. J. Finn is being accused of plagiarism as well as other unsavory things. Maybe he's another Maurice Swift!

Judith E Ugh. I listened to this on audio and it was horrible. And now hearing questionable things about the author.

message 18: by Michelle (new)

Michelle I hppe your next read will be loads better, Beata!

Kathleen The main character is NOT very likable, and I AM tiring of this whole 'unreliable narrator' trope we seem to be experiencing.

Kathleen OMG! Just read the article about the author. He is definitely a Maurice Swift--and total scumbag.

Thank you, Dear Maureen :))

Beata Diane wrote: "Sincere n honest review, Beata"
Thanks, Diane :)) I always feel somehow guilty when my rating is low, however, my thoughts are honest, and I'm happy when a novel which wasn;t to my liking is appreciated by other readers ..... we all have different sensitivity & tastes, dont we? :)

Beata Julie wrote: "On to the next. I hope your next book is great! 😊"
It is, indeed, Dear Julie :)) Thanks!

Beata Nadia wrote: "Uh oh.. sorry it didnt work for you, Beata. I bought a copy but havent read it yet, I might not rush to pick it up now.."
nadia, I guess you should try it, especially that you already have a copy :)) This novel seems to be very popular in Poland & I can see it almost everywhere :) I'll check your review, naturally! :)

Beata classic reverie wrote: "Wonderfully honest review, Beata! 💖 We all have different taste and at least you tried! Thank goodness for all the book choices!"
Hear hear, Dear Tricia :)) Thank you for your warm comment!! :) Hugs&more hugs to you! :)

Beata Jenna wrote: "I had another friend write a similar review to yours a few days ago, Beata. Sorry you wasted your time on it; I've removed it from my TBR list. Thank you for an honest review!">
Dear Jenna, it just didn't click, you know, there are so many wonderful books waiting for you :))

Beata Barbara wrote: "A honest review. Beata. Thanks for sparing me."
Very honest, Barbara, but it's only my opinion :)) Don't know, probably the characters weren't believeable and I definitely prefer Hitchcock and his version of what one can see looking out of the window :)

Beata JV wrote: "Sorry this was a dud, dear Beata! I'm hoping that your next read is a riveting one! 🤗"
It is, Dear JV :)) Thank you for your lovely comment :)

Beata Beverly wrote: "I think I am going to pass on this one, as I've heard sketchy things about the author lately. Great insights Beata, especially the part about having to return it and not caring."
thank you, Beverly :) Actually, I haven't read any interviews with the author or any reviews in the newspapers ( which I often do), so my reading choice was based only on the popularity of this title .... Just wanted to check it for myself and now I know :)

Beata Paula wrote: "Hope you next one is better, Beata!"
Thank you, Paula :) Actually it is!! Lucky me! :)

Beata Judy wrote: "I had the same reaction as you, although I rated it a bit higher. Still a disappointing book."
Yes, Judy, it was disappointing for me as well .... Glad we have similar views on this novel :)

Beata Richard wrote: "Oh well ........ upwards and onwards :)"
Thank you, Richard :) Never give up! :)) There's always a perfect book behind the corner ;)

Beata Mark wrote: "Great review, I too felt the same"
Thanks, Mark :) Having rated it low, I'm happy for all the readers who enjoyed it much better than me :)

Beata Dean J. Hill wrote: "I enjoyed it to be fair. Although it got a bit tedious towards the end."
It was just an OK book for me, Dean, so it's not that bad, I guess ;))) as I said, I just expected more ...

Beata Barbara wrote: "A. J. Finn is being accused of plagiarism as well as other unsavory things. Maybe he's another Maurice Swift!"
Haven't heard anything about the author, Barbara ..... Swift is a character from a different planet, you hate him but you love the novel, and this is what I call top class fiction :) Hugs to you, Barbara :)

Beata Judith wrote: "Ugh. I listened to this on audio and it was horrible. And now hearing questionable things about the author."
Haven't heard anything about the author, Judith, probably missed out on some articles .... Glad we had similar thoughts on this novel ..

Beata Michelle wrote: "I hppe your next read will be loads better, Beata!"
Thank you, Michelle :)) It is, actually :))

Beata Kathleen wrote: "OMG! Just read the article about the author. He is definitely a Maurice Swift--and total scumbag."
Haven't heard anything ... I don't think I'll bother to read about this author ... If he is like MS, well, ...... no comment, Kathleen ..... hugs to you!

Beata Meredith wrote: "Sorry this didn't work for you, Beata. I hope your next book is much better!"
Thank you, Meredith :)) You're most kind :)

Hanneke Beata, I guess your instincts about the author were quite right. I just read an astonishing article about Dan Mallory, the author, in The New Yorker. Extensive reporting on his outrageous lying about serious illness he claims he had (all lies!), dead relatives (lies!), academic titles (lies!). Well, obviously the man is a pathological liar of the hightest order which would be his problem if he did not harm family, friends and colleagues.

Fran Beata...sorry this tome wasn't for you. Onward to your next 5 star* read!

Thank you, Dear Hanneke, for your warm words & for the hint regarding the article in TNY, I'll read it, that's for sure!

Beata Fran wrote: "Beata...sorry this tome wasn't for you. Onward to your next 5 star* read!"
Thank you, Fran :)) My present reads are a way better than this one .....

message 46: by Joe (new)

Joe Krakovsky Well, that was a noble reason to finish the book even if it made you feel like the court jester for doing it.

H (no longer expecting notifications) Balikov One of the greatest responsibilities of a fiction writer is to make us care about the character(s).

Beata Joe wrote: "Well, that was a noble reason to finish the book even if it made you feel like the court jester for doing it."
Rarely do I leave the book unfinished, Joe ... It happened once, last year, I guess .... Thank you for stopping by, Joe :))

Beata HBalikov wrote: "One of the greatest responsibilities of a fiction writer is to make us care about the character(s)."
Very well said, H :)) If you don't relate to a character, you forget what the book was about within several weeks, I'd say .....

message 50: by Patricia (new) - added it

Patricia Williams thanks for your review. My mystery book club is reading this in June and it's interesting to see your outlook.
