Three things:
1. I’m typically reading two books at a time: an ebook (for getting cozy at home) and an audiobook (as I’m schlepping my three kids to every corner of our town.) But, my patience with audiobook narrators seems to be wearing thin. It’s remarkable how much they can make or break a book. The last Chamberlain book I listened to had this narrator, and I almost gave up here when recognized the voice. I wish now that I would have waited for the ebook.
2. As the story progresses, Caroline finds herself in an unexpected pickle, and her choices from then on were....mediocre. And naturally, I kept having these (brilliant...Ha!) alternate solutions pop into my head about how she could outsmart her situation. So, there’s that frustration too.
3. Time travel...not my jam. And yet STILL, Diane Chamberlain (who’s books are always engaging) manages to squeeze 4 stars out of me. That’s impressive! Mainly because Chamberlain’s strength is how she sweeps you into a story and refuses to let go. So, I’m basically saying the petty frustrations were worth it 🙂
