it was amazing

A young woman is murdered and cut into pieces, her body parts (minus the head) left in the woods to be found by four 12 year old boys. The story is told by Ed, a high school teacher who is one of the four boys who found the body. Most of the story either takes place in 1986 or 2016 as we learn about the time leading up to the discovery of the body and other mysterious happenings in the town afterwards.

I love reading a book that I don't want to put down until the end and that's how I felt about this book. I enjoyed the characters even if I didn't like some of them at all. I look forward to reading more from C.J. Tudor.

Update: 11/27/2022 I liked this one but I always have questions when I'm finished with a Tudor book. This one did make a big impression on me because of a certain health issue and it's the Tudor book that I remember the most.

Thank you Paulette. I liked this book better than The Hiding Place, by the same author.

Leila A interesting review Marilyn. I have this book but have never got round to reading it as yet. Thank you.

Thank you Leila. I came late to Tudor's work but really liked this book and The Others...I had a harder time understanding The Hiding Place.

Tamar...playing hooky for a few hours today Tterrific review. Tossing the trophy into the trunk at the end of the book was kind of funny (in a sicko sort of way). I thought the Others was the best of the three - I listened to the audio and there was a bonus of three short stories by Tudor (I loved them - even more than her novels).

Thank you tamar! I had trouble understanding the ending of The Hiding Place so I liked The Others and The Chalk Man better. I really do enjoy this author!

Yes, it was a good one! I wonder what she has coming out in the future 😊

Taste_in_Books Have you read her latest The Burning Girls? I'm yet to read it..

Yes, I've read that one, also. It was good too, different from her other books.

Tina Excellent review Marilyn! This is one I've always been meaning to read.

Thanks, DeAnn! If you read it, I want to talk about the ending with you. I seem to get confused by some of Tudor's endings 🤔

Dorie - Cats&Books :) I really liked this one too, which is why I picked up The Drift which I am already worried about after reading your review :)

I "think" The Drift will be too much for you, also, but give it a try. It's not made up of nice people, the nice people don't survive. 😬

Jennifer Thorne Sounds like a good one that I would enjoy! Thanks for your review!!

MarilynW Jennifer wrote: "Sounds like a good one that I would enjoy! Thanks for your review!!"

Thank you, Jennifer! As you can see, I enjoyed this one a lot. There is horror there but it's subtle. Now Tudor has moved to in your face, horrific horror and it's too much for me.

Oh, yes! What do you think of The Burning Girls on tv? I felt sad knowing about the real burning girls when reading the book.
