Dear Reader,

I must admit to a certain impatience with the characters at the start of this book. The underlying tension served to grate on me and I did, once or twice, think of setting it aside.
However, the need to know not only the identity of the perpetrator but also that of the victim, spurred me on.

This is an atmospheric read, set,as it is,in the confines of the Scottish highlands.
Its brooding, chilling and hostile environment mirrors the relationship, hostilities and ailing friendships between these seemingly similar but realistically, very different disparate group of friends.

Fuelled by old grievances, much alcohol, jealousies, and myriad secrets, coupled with the hidden histories of Heather and Doug, these nine friends get more than they bargained for,on this New Year’s weekend.

Recommended to those looking for something a little outside the box.

Mary Beth Awesome review, Mary! So glad that you ended up enjoying it. So did it have a slow burn in the beginning? I just read a book like that and was intrigued enough to finish it, but all the action was at the end. I struggled with that one but the ending worked for me. 😘

Mary Thank you for commenting,Mary Beth. The start introduced the characters and how they were all linked together through marriage and friendships. I thought it went on too long but I’m glad I persevered.

Carol I started this and just couldn't get into it. Your review makes me think I should try it again. I'll add it to an offline list and see.

Mary I understand where you’re coming from, Carol. I found it hard to get into it at the start as I was bored with the characters. But I stuck with it. Hope you enjoy it if you take it up again.
