- Ave, Imperator!

- A-a-a-a-ave Manny. Heri o-o-o-ccurabamus?

- Parodis Paulii Bryantii erat.

- A-a-a-absit invidia. Latinam loquitis?

- Googlam Translatam utiliso.

- Non i-i-i-intelligo.

- Malefice! Logicus coprae est.

- P-p-parodis Bryantii melius erat.

- Bastarde!

Ben Thanks for the humour but just three stars? I thought you would give more than that. lol

Manny I read it when I was about 13 (probably this was too young) and I can remember very little about it. If I re-read it now, I suspect I would like it more...

Praj 'I, Claudius' reviews just keeping getting better.

Jason Have you seen the Masterpiece Theatre adaptation? John Hurt as Caligula & Patrick Stewart as a roman general--with hair! It's a great series. (oh, & I read the book too).

Paul Bryant who can withstand....the self-parodyist!!

Ian "Marvin" Graye Parody Most (Rebecca) Black

It's Parody, Parody, Parody
Gotta get down on Parody
I wish I had the time to make a better rhyme
But everybody's lookin' forward to Parody, Parody
On Facebook, YouTube and GoodReads.

Parody, Parody (Yeah)
(Rhymes with) Parody, Parody (Yeah)
It's so much fun when you learn how to Pun
Lookin' forward to the Lampoon, Lampoon
On Facebook, YouTube and GoodReads.

Yesterday, it was Irony, Irony, Irony
Today, it's Parody, Parody (and Partyin')
We're so genuinely excited
Our parents are delighted
We're gonna have a youthful Spoof today.

Tomorrow is Flattery, Flattery (not just for a hero)
After which Self-Parody comes naturally to mio
Followed by a meagre Pastiche (what the Romans call Pastichio)
In which I skip a light Fandango with the Queen and Gallileo
And try a green Gelato with those nuts they call Pistachio.

If only I could find a wealthy buyer
For some of my Juvenal-esque Satire,
I'd send you a gilt-edged invitation
To a night of slavish Imitation
With my world class vocal Simulation.

Instead, I don't know how this weekend's gonna end up
And I don't know how to wind down my very gentle Send Up
Well, they say the other girls are whingin', bitchin', money-hungry half-wits
But I would be so happy, if I scored a lonely Euro, for my many YouTube hits
And I starred in a tasteful page three piccie, with my pretty Burlesque tits.

Manny Hey, that's good! When are you recording it and posting to YouTube?

Ian "Marvin" Graye Manny wrote: "Hey, that's good! When are you recording it and posting to YouTube?"

Ha, thanks, maybe one of these Fridays.

Manny Maybe you could do it as a duet with one of your daughters. I believe you said you had daughters?

message 10: by Ian (new)

Ian "Marvin" Graye I think it would sound better if they did it as a duet without me.

They've been doing duets of "Walking On Sunshine" for school lately and they sound darn good.

message 11: by Paul (new) - rated it 5 stars

Paul Bryant I am picturing you jumping happily into the front seat back seat as me, Manny and Not are waving and clapping & them the gleaming Thunderbird rolls down the Boulevard of Broken Authors and we rap out our parodies right, left and centre. I think we would get 61 hits on youtube, easily.

message 12: by Ian (new)

Ian "Marvin" Graye Thanks, Paul, could we make room for the girls in this video ("Alex the Seal")(which I have re-enacted):

Riku Sayuj Ian, may I remind you about the pending youtube recording?

message 14: by David (new) - added it

David You read this when you were 13? Wow... That's either impressive or a little troubling. Did you find Graves through his classics translations? I guess that would be a good explanation. I have been meaning to read this for a few years.

Manny As already noted, I don't think I appreciated it as a 13 year old. I really should reread it.

I think the book was just lying around the house and I picked it up...

Abe I love wandering the halls of Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ... I always stumble across an old Manny review that induces audible laughter. This one is pretty darn witty.

Manny Paul basically dared me to write a review in Latin. My pride was at stake.
