really liked it
bookshelves: adult-fantasy, sci-fi, horror

I really wanted to give this 5 stars but that ending. Am I the only one who felt confused about it?
The ending felt to disjointed and abrupt.

Anna-Lisa That‘s why I also rated it only 4 stars

Dionna I still gave it a 5, but I know what you mean. I just enjoyed it so much overall, I had to give the 5. I do think there is supposed to be a sequel.

Jaclyn It was definitely abrupt, after a very tepid, plodding first two acts. I was nearly 3/4 of the way through and concerned about how she was going to wrap it up satisfactorily. Answer: she didn't. For all the boring detail we got in the set up, the ending was a blur. I'm sure it was meant as a plot device, but the dread build up didn't exist for me, not really. The character deaths were as quick and unsatisfying for developed characters as they were for throwaways. Just...meh.

Martha Totally agree, great book but disappointed by the abrupt and unsatisfying ending

Sarah Ortinau Same. I was watching Jurassic Park at the time of the ending, and I just kept thinking: "Oh, this is the part where at unlikely character goes to turn everything on. Oh there's the part where the hunter is killed my the monster. Oh, there's everyone hunkering down in a bunker, with one character's leg injured." Please tell me I'm not the only one who thought this was Jurassic Park meets Shape of Water.

But yea, WHY DID THE SIRENS IN THE POOL NOT KILL EVERYONE? ALSO, HOW DID SHE SURVIVE NEARLY AN HOUR UNDERWATER (FREEDIVING UNDER A BOAT, GOING THROUGH PIPE, BEING TRAPPED, FRIEND NOTICING HER, SOMEONE HAPPENS TO HELP, AND SIRENS, IN A POOL NOT KILLING ANYONE?)

Elle I also felt cheated at the end. I even told my husband about it, like, I love this author and this book was amazing but the ending was not good, not satisfying, and I'm kinda mad about it.

Daisy Cartwright Glad I’m not the only one who felt like this. The ending left me hanging. It didn’t conclude very well which is a shame as I loved the rest of the book!

Lianna Agreed! The ending didn't answer ANY of my questions and I was so upset about it!

Brandi Ohhhh no. Now I'm worried, lol. I have maybe....a little less than a quarter left.

message 10: by Emma (new) - rated it 2 stars

Emma I gave three stars, one of the things that bothered me the most.
