4.5 Among my favourites in 2019. Loved the whole trilogy which I look forward to revisiting in one stretch. Some novels which clearly aim to convey life lessons, such as respect for life and fairness and kindness are all too often unpleasant and mawkish because preachy in tone. But Neal Shusterman has created a future world where the main protagonists must literally deal out death as a professional skill, and philosophical questions about life and death and the choices we make are not at all out of place. The action is thrilling and this conclusion to the trilogy offers quite a few surprises. I’ve seen very mixed responses to this final book, but I was happy with how Stephenson chose to finish things off.
I’m especially happy I’ve got plenty of other books by him to read still. “Dry has been especially recommended to me.
Will add specifics about “The Toll to this review.

"Loving this, and just took notice of the subtle (or not so subtle) commentary on current times, when word definitions are being changed to suit the needs of certain powers that be, and the new guard is motivated by a thirst for power and eager to destroy lives in the process, and everyone must fall in line or pay the price for dissenting. Could be reading too much into it but somehow..."
