The Thirst (Harry Hole, #11)

This is the 11th offering in Nesbo’s popular Norway Noir series featuring the flawed detective Harry Hole. Harry is less of a ‘mess than he usually is. He is now married to Rakel and staying away from alcohol. Could he possibly be dealing with something as foreign as happiness? Hah—not for long. A serial killer needs to be caught and the corrupt Chief of Police, Mikael Bellman, is black-mailing him to take the case.
The killer appears to be a ‘vampirist using metal teeth and ever more horrific means of murder with each death. [The body count IS a bit excessive!] The reader learns entirely too much about blood—quantity/weight in the human body, what it tastes like, how the iron it contains can be poisonous, and on-and-on. Yuck! Nesbo also utilizes two psychologist characters to explore the inner motivations of such a criminally insane perpetrator. Indeed, he devotes a considerable portion of the narrative on psychological discussions.
Nesbo’s twisted plot does not disappoint. And followers of the series will be reacquainted with his many complex characters. Despite the brutal violence that Nesbo exposes the reader to, this is more a story about ambition and the darkness of soul it can lead to. Recommend.

Perfectly. I am not into the horror genre myself, but this certainly could qualify. :)

Thank you Richard--I love the series too.

Thanks Jenna; and yes, this one just about hit my own 'too much violence' button.

He is HUGELY popular in the Scandinavian countries.

That would be a daunting task! The books do build on each other, but you can certainly read them out of order.
