Without overdoing the pun, everything by Diamond shines and shines. This is his greatest work. Occasionally in life you can feel a book shifting the way you see the world, shifting what you thought you knew about the world. There is a documentary made around this book, but read the book - trust me.

Can u suggest me something? I am currently reading Sapiens.. is this book similar to the guns, germs & steel?
I didn't particularly like Sapiens - but oddly enough, I read The Patterning Instinct: A Cultural History of Humanity's Search for Meaning at more or less the same time and enjoyed it much more. I think it reminded me more of GGS than Sapiens did.
I have seen the documentary at least three times I guess. And I absolutely lived it. Is there much more in the book?

This book was a delightful surprise for me. Although I have read "academic" books (for lack of a better word) in the past I have never been passionate enough to spread the word. To people like me with a really short attention span, this book felt like an adventure. I couldn't put it down. All the book-loving people I know would think I work for the publishing house the way I try to get them interested in this book.
