This book has been around for many years so I don't have much to add that hasn't already been said. I listened to the audio book and thought the reader did a very good job. Many parts of it reflect the brutality and lack of protection for children during the 1800's. The poor job prospects for a "fallen" woman and the redemption and growth that Angel achieves.

Carol, I think I read where it was based on a biblical story. But I can understand where you are coming from and this book is not for everyone. I hope your next read is a 5
