With heat indexes soaring into the triple digits for the past week, the thought of being snowed in at a remote cabin sounded romantic, delightful and cozy. That is, until the dead bodies started piling up.
Reminiscent of the locked door mysteries of Agatha Christie, where there is a limited number of suspects, this was an entertaining dive into the lives and the psyches of the guests at the lodge. I loved the atmosphere of the inn, and the eccentric characters.
Unlike Christie, the clues weren’t there along the way so there is no moment for the reader at the end when everything clicks into place. Still, this was entertaining and engaging with a surprise ending that I appreciated. Recommended for fans of Agatha Christie type mysteries with a modern twist.
I tried to fill in my reading with the audio version on a long drive and I don’t recommend listening to this one. The narrator has an odd robotic cadence and I agree with the reviewer who said it was like being read to by Siri.

Jennifer, thanks! Even my dogs don't want to go out, haha. Some people don't want to read about winter settings in the summer but I love it. It gives me hope this too will end.

Thanks Erin, luckily I had the e-book too but I do have to wonder how these narrators get the job.

Sandra, I'll usually DNF a book quickly if the narrator is awful. I am picky - no overacting and no Siri voice 😉 I'm glad I could fill in with the e-book in this case!

Holly, thanks 💖 It was so weird, l've never heard anyone talk that way, lol!

Thanks Stephanie, I just read your review and it seems we both would have preferred an ending that had clues along the way, like Christie...which is much harder to write IMO

Marialyce, I'm not surprised we felt similarly about this one 😊 👯♀

Thanks Jenna! I'm so ready to be chilly and read snuggled under a cozy blanket! Maybe I'll just crank down the a/c 😉

Thanks Kaceey, it was good and I enjoyed it, it just fell a little short at the end.

Yun, I read through all the AC books in my 20s - I'm a huge fan so anything that brings back that delicious feeling of cracking open a new AC book is a winner for me too. But she sets the bar high!

Angela, haha, yes, this one probably isn't for you 😉 Lets hope we all get a break from the brutal temps soon.

Thanks Meredith! 💖

Alecia, I couldn't listen for long, ugh. Who talks like this? But it was a nice pleasant read for sure.

Debbie, if it wasn't Siri, it was her twin 😂
We are two peas in a pod. My husband says I have a 2 degree window of comfort and it's true. Where do I live? I have to check every morning (we are between states right now) but currently I'm in NE OH where you don't expect triple digit heat waves. Thankfully we are back in the 70s now and it's delightful....whew. I'd take cold over heat and humidity any day.

Thanks Bianca, the temps, thankfully, are back in the double digits 😊

Lisa, probably a good choice. I think this author is not for me either.

Thanks Paulette, I love anything Agatha Christie and feel we've lost something now that's it's all about the big twists/reveals.

I understand. I took a long break from he genre and it did wonders for my reading life. Thanks Pat!

That always annoys me. I love to look back and think 'aha", not WTH just happened, lol
Kat (Temporary Hiatus) wrote: "Oh no, sorry to hear the listening portion wasn’t great. The voice actors on these books can make or break a book. Glad you still liked the book and story overall. ❣️"
Definitely! If I hadn't been a captive audience in the car I would have abandoned the audio for print.
Tina wrote: "I enjoyed your review Jan. Too bad you did not enjoy this one more though. If I decide to read this one thanks for the tip on skipping the audio!"
Thanks Tina. I know you also enjoy audiobooks but do try this one in print 😊
