it was amazing

Encyclopaedic, intelligent and profound. Unexpectedly, but it has turned quite lyrical at the second part, and it has appeared to contain only one, but absolutely beautiful love scene. Total delight to read.

Ilse Great to hear you enjoyed this so much, Katia - I got this as a Christmas present and now look forward to read it even more.

Fionnuala Snap, Ilse I got it as a Christmas present too and still haven't read it.
Katia, your thoughts on it might make me read it before another Christmas goes by...

Thank you, dear Isle. I've had it for a few years as well before I've read it. I liked his Zone which I've read before. My short few sentences do not do the book any justice. He is an academic and knows the subject matter very well. This book is about the people from the West who ended up admiring or studying so-called Orient. The book moves between Vienna, Syria, Iran and a bit of Istanbul. It takes time to get used to his style, but when and if it happens, you would enjoy it, I hope. Also it reminded me Danube: A Sentimental Journey from the Source to the Black Sea. It has been even mentioned in the text.

Thank you, Fionnuala, I hope you like it. You will probably be reading it in original French which is even better. Though the English translation is superb.

Thank you, Steve. I might write a proper review at some stage. Just wanted to share how I liked it before i will have a chance to do it.

Théo d'Or Come from you, is a good recommendation, Katia.

Katia N Thank you, Theodore. Have you read his Zone? Both books are exceptionally good if one likes his style.

Théo d'Or No, but one of my friends
the writer Cristian Fulas translated it in my country.
