I don’t like books with ghosts, but I sure liked The Sun Down Motel -- despite the ghosts. The story is set in 1982 and 2018 in a small town in upstate New York. In 1982, 20 year old Viv moves to town and takes a job as a nighttime clerk at the Sun Down Motel. A few months later, she disappears... In 2018, Viv’s niece Carly comes to town to figure out what happened to her aunt after her mother dies. She too takes a job at the Sun Down Motel I couldn’t quite say why I liked this one so much despite the ghosts. There’s something about the ominous atmosphere, the smart female characters and the clever parallel plots that had me hooked. I must admit that I guessed what was going on fairly early on, but I still enjoyed it despite the ghosts. My only other quibble is that, in some respects, the author painted 1982 as though it was in the stone ages. Ahem -- it really wasn’t that long ago! Anyways, this was lots of fun, and I plan to read other books by this author despite the ghosts. Thanks to the publisher and Edelweiss for giving me access to an advance copy.

Thanks Jennifer. I hope you enjoy it too. I think it's something about the atmosphere she creates...

Thanks JanB. Having been warned about the ghosts, I think my expectations were quite low. I was happily surprised and found the story entertaining.

Thanks Angela! I don't think this converted me to ghost stories but I enjoyed it.

Thanks Elyse. Yup, the author was clearly not an adult in the 80s!
