Pure escapist military sci fi, a superior example thereof. Doesn't take itself that seriously, a big plus for this genre. Characterization is not bad, required suspension of disbelief is not massive. Enjoyable time filler/ beach book.

2022 Reread
The first and the best of the Lost Fleet- Black Jack Geary books, now pushing 20 volumes, in their various forms. The series is just plain, old escapist fun, with no redeeming social content. That's why I love it.

October 2023 Reread
Needed a quick comfort read and Black Jack always fits the bill. It's lazy but it feels good. -30-

The series, with it's various spin-offs, is now at some 20 novels, and has become a bit repetitive and formulaic. I don't care. I still read every Lost Fleet book as it comes out (though I may grumble at some parts). Incurably addicted.
