4 STARS!

Due to going to Edinburgh and the Scottish Highlands in a couple of months, I wanted to read a few books set in this area or at least by a Scottish author.

Enter...

Robert Louis Stevenson with his well-loved classic, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde!

I love reading good classics and I enjoyed this one! Mr. Utterson is investigating the presence of a person called Edward Hyde who is in contact with his good friend, the doctor Henry Jekyll.
Hyde is evil, abhorrent and Mr. Utterson can't understand why his friend Jekyll has relations with this person.

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a twisted tale and a great one to read. There's something so strange of a person (view spoiler)

SIDENOTE:

The great thing about internet sleuthing is finding out that this book might have been based off a real person. William Brodie, a well-respected man in Scotland who was a cabinet maker. He was also on the city council because of his influence and wealth.

BUT...

He was also a skilled locksmith and had duplicate copies of house keys made of his clients' homes.
Yeah, that's not going to end well. He robbed them blind! Brodie used his double life to indulge in his own vices from gambling, mistresses and even cock fighting.
I can't wait to go to the pub, Deacon Brodies Tavern in Edinburgh and have a drink to this two faced mastermind.

Kudos to Robert Louis Stevenson for creating a unforgettable classic!

Thanks Terry!! I'm so glad to finally get to it.

TS Chan Oh, I’ve heard that Scotland is beautiful, and would love to go there one day. Are you doing a Scottish Highland train journey?

Back to the book, this one is on my classics TBR shortlist. Esp the audiobook which is narrated by the amazing Richard Armitage.

No, we’re renting a car in Edinburgh, going up to Inverness and then making our way down to London at the end. An epic 2 week road trip through the UK! We’re stopping in York and Bath as well.

Nice! I think you’ll like this one TS. Some classics are hard to read but this one wasn’t at all and the plot is a dark one.

Awesome! Gosh, I feel like a long time ago I might have read this one but since I have no clear recollection, it's officially TBR!

Good! Maybe you won’t remember much and it will feel like you’re reading it for the first time. Hahaha

Gary K Bibliophile Great review! Very interesting too. To get fired up for Scotland you could always watch Monarch of the Glen - I always enjoyed that show. (Not to be confused with The Monarch of the Glen by Neil Gaiman - good too, but totally different 😀)

preoccupiedbybooks Great review, I love your side note! Also you are going to love Edinburgh, York and Bath, all lovely places! Let me know if you need any tips! :)

Ceecee Great review Ginger. Scotland is one of my favourite places - you’ll love it. I live near York and you’ll definitely love that (not biased at all!) and Bath is great too. Like Fran, any tips we’re your girls!! 😊

Thank you Fran!! I would love some tips! My question is what's the best thing to see in any of those cities (Edinburgh, Inverness, York or Bath?) I've got lots of ideas from websites and a few books but I would love to hear from someone that lives over in the UK.
And really anything that you think is awesome to see besides those cities. We will be driving so we can stop and check things out! =)

We're also going to London but it's only for 2 days and we did all the tourist things back in 2016. We're trying to do more of UK this time.

Thank you Ceecee! Yes, I would love some tips! Since you love Scotland and live near York, what's some things that we HAVE to see. I would love to get some ideas from locals instead of websites.

For sure TS! I'll post some pictures on Instagram and Facebook.
I'm hoping one day that my husband and I can go check out Antarctica. Your pictures were amazing. What a trip!!

megs_bookrack Yayee! Sounds like a fun trip coming for you, Ginger! I hope it is less dramatic than that had in The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley! :)
