it was amazing

I absolutely loved Station Eleven and would consider it one of my top reads this year. Oooh, that "favorites" button is tempting. When I began reading, I was not necessarily in the mood for a novel with multiple storylines or a more serious theme, but Mandel drew me right in. Since each story revolves around one character, we already recognize the connection, making shifts in time and person a bit easier to keep straight. I found myself wondering, what happened before this chapter? What happened after? Also, unlike other books where one storyline is interesting and another is skim-worthy, there was never a moment I didn't feel drawn back in to Station Eleven .

Be warned that this book discusses a pandemic and its after-effects. I don't imagine all would enjoy reading how the world might crumble (considering our current pandemic), but I found it to be an engaging and realistic take rather than a more science-fiction perspective... All the more eerie. (view spoiler)

God, I loved this book.

Samantha Great review Katie! I was a big fan of this one when I read it too. Just heard that it's being adapted into a miniseries, woohoo 🎉

message 2: by Joe (new) - rated it 5 stars

Joe I was captivated by this one too, Katie. It was a different take on the apocalypse while not straining to reinvent the sub-genre either. The character who never got to finish her comic Station Eleven has stayed with me, even if her name hasn't. It spoke to the endurance of storytelling.

Katie Joe, I felt the same and really loved your recap review. It helped me elicit some of the feelings I had while reading - a great summary.

Samantha, YES! I saw your review before I started. I swear 75% of the books I’ve recently read will be TV/movies soon. 😍 I’ll probably still end up reading instead anyway, but it does feel exciting when it’s a favorite.
