Into the Wild

Another well-written book by Jon Krakauer, this was a fascinating, and often sad, glimpse into the spiral down of an idealistic young man, Christopher McCandless. Even when his decision-making didn't make sense, the reader still somehow identifies with the internal struggle this young man was going through, and his journey becomes theirs to take with him. It seems terrible to say I enjoyed this book, but I really did. If nothing else, it allowed me to identify with someone else's struggles, while seeing from a safe distance the fallacy in their thinking.

I totally understand what you said in your review about how he comes off on the page. He's not terribly likable! I think the one-time psych major in me found his thought processes fascinating though, even if I wanted to shake sense into him!

Haha! Foiled by Regina! 😂 It's not a book for everyone, but it's still a pretty fascinating journey into someone's misguided thought processes. Sounds like a good time, right? 😁

Thanks, Yun! 💗 It was pretty fascinating!

Thank you, Kat! He's not the easiest person to feel sympathetic towards, but it's always good practice to see the world through someone else's eyes for a bit.
You really captured this one, Kat. I remember reading it about 20 years ago and thinking how easily CM made some not-to-well thought out decisions that tragically changed and shortened his life. It's so simple to imagine how that could happen. Great review.

Kat wrote: "Thanks, Bob. It really was a tragic story - I agree. His idealism and short-sightedness cost him so much. I thought Krakauer did an excellent job telling his story."

It's an excellent book and a very good movie was based on it as well! I hope you get a chance to read it! 💖
