what. the fuck.

I can’t trust ŷ reviews anymore because how is this a 4 starred book??!!

I think this is another instance where the most of the people who’ve read from this author are new to the thriller genre and absolutely love it.

Not meeeeee.

This book’s plot was ridiculous; right to the climax—ridiculous to the point where it’s non-believable. Actually most thrillers are non-believable but there’s a groundness to it, a reality check of plausible believability. But not here, folks. Too many plot holes. Too many what ifs and whys and whats and oh nos. Don’t be fooled. Like I was. Haha....hA....oh man.

Not gonna lie, first half of the book got me intrigued and the writing style is extremely fast paced and engaging but....

It all just got all downhill from there for me. The rest of this book got extremely cliche and predictable. And then I saw the twist and I was hoping (please), that this twist wasn’t going to be the case....but oh boy. It was.

Our lead girl is also very contradicting herself. She’d realize something wrong and shady but then later either a) brush it off and make up excuses for it or b) forget all that monologuing and deep though contemplating on chapter 15 to do the opposite on chapter 20.

But it all makes sense because......

I canNOT stand when mental illness is used as a twist/plot device. It’s so cheap not to mention degrading and problematic.

And that ending???

Go ahead. ”Help yourself.
Who knows, you might like it.

1 STAR for writing.

It’s 5 AM as I’m writing this review so time to sleep for another 72 hours and purge my brain of this mess.

Kimberly oooo no... I got them from BOTM. Haven't read it yet. Doesn't sounds promising though.

message 2: by Sarah (new) - added it

Sarah Now i‘m scared to read it 🥶

message 3: by Happy (new)

Happy Little Good to know! Its off my list ✔️

Tracy Hipp I agree with your review completely. In particular I dislike when a female author uses the crazy, mentally unwell plot twist. This book was a complete flop.

message 5: by Courtnie (new) - added it

Courtnie Castille Agreed!! This was not good. Ugh

message 6: by Rich (new)

Rich I read the plot and knew it would suck come on

M. Corn I absolutely disagree. When you say she contradicts herself, realizes something is shady, brushes it off and makes up excuses...isn't that mental illness in a nutshell? If everything were perfect and followed our expectations, how would she appear mentally ill then? I think Tarryn captured Thursday's delusional state perfectly.

Barbara Read first few chapter then skipped to the end. Incredibly stupid book.

message 9: by Amber (new)

Amber Ferguson 100% agree! It was predictable and I didn’t like how the author used mental illness as a scapegoat and perpetuates stigma and stereotypes

message 10: by Celeste (new) - added it

Celeste Munoz I felt the same way... This came highly recommended by a fellow bookstagramer and the whole time I was reading it I was wondering what the hype was about

Courtney Great review! And you are correct - the majority of high rating are from her readers who have read her other work and never read a thriller.
Writing was great - 1st half was intriguing while 2nd half killed the book.

Katie T AGREED. I was skeptical of how many good reviews there were for this, but then I got all hopeful thinking this could maybe be a secret incredible read. WRONG. The unreliable/crazy narrator is so over done, even more so when the plot is crap.

message 13: by Dawn (new) - rated it 2 stars

Dawn I have read her other work and was highly disappointed in this one.. will never recommend it

Asphyxiac Same. I’m like wtf did I just read. About to go to sleep and pray that my dreams cleanse this drivel from brain.

Miranda Hunt Here here!

message 16: by Shish (new) - rated it 1 star

Shish Niatnuom I couldn’t put it better into words. I 100% agree with everything you just said.

Robin G I completely agree with your review, I enjoyed the first half but the second half was unbelievable

message 18: by Linda Rae (new)

Linda Rae Read the first 2 chapters and that was it for me. Thanks for this review, otherwise I might have kept reading!

Cookie This book was a hot mess! How do you go from writing something brilliant like Mud Vein to this? 300 page book took me two weeks to read, two weeks I’ll never get back.

Samara I agree with you 100%. I just finished this book last night and it was extremely disjointed and clumsy. I don't understand why so many people liked this book.

message 21: by Ally (new) - rated it 2 stars

Ally I agree, I felt so alone in not liking this book. It seemed like everyone loved it. I was holding out hope that there would be a final twist at the end something that would make reading it somewhat worthwhile but that wasn’t the case and I was terribly disappointed.

Jenny Kenley I agree! The first half was good and I thought I’d picked a winner....but then it just died. I fought my way through the last half, but it wasn’t worth it.

Jillian Vicinanza Yes!! Thank you!!!

Lori Vaclavik Totally agree. I despise this piece of trash book and don’t understand the four star ratings.

Chrissy Antonopoulos Agree!!!! Of course she’s mentally ill and then mental illness = delusions and violence. This book reinforces the stigma of mental illness.

Paris Loves Wine & Reading This book was so trash. All i read are thrillers and the ending was a cop out. Be more creative. I hate when they use mental illness to resolve loose ends. Also I hated the main character. Who agrees to polygamy. It was stupid as hell. I didn’t feel sorry for her for the choices she made!!

Jess | thegreeneyedreader I didnt love it either

Amy Jo Grimes Thank you. I hate when mental illness is the plot twist.

Ashlee I must say, I agree with you, but I gave it a four, mainly because of the creating and engaging writing

Brian Kennedy Thank you.

Lauren Well said - who gives this trash 5 stars

message 32: by REWS (new) - rated it 1 star

REWS Couldn't agree more. This book was atrocious. I was audibly groaning in the final chapters, but I had to see if it could possibly get worse. Spoiler - it did! Truly shocked by all the high ratings

Yamna Thank you! I cannot believe this book has so many freaking 4 and 5 stars! I found it "okay" at best

message 34: by TMR (new) - added it

TMR Sorry it didn’t work.

Joanne Cheek Horrible over-hyped junk

Suzanne Kroger Borton ŷ has let me down too. How the hell does this book have anything beyond a 2 star rating?! I can’t even agree that the first half was ok, I was rolling my eyes through all that too!

Reiner Stfu eddie, its not as if this book is child friendly.

Courtney Bibi wrote: "When I read your 1st comment, I chose to ignore, but you came back like a whining brat (on someone else's review no less) to show us just how much of an entitled POS you are, EDDIE!

Who the fuck made you the ŷ police and why the fuck should we listen to you?

Hint: no one gives a fuck, Eddie"

A-FUCKING-MEN, Bibi!!!

Courtney Edward wrote: "You are right they should have a goodreads police nice idea. You can put how much you dislike your book in different terms."

Eddie - you are delusional. It's called "FREEDOM OF SPEECH!"

message 40: by Kim (new) - rated it 2 stars

Kim I agree! I don’t know how people are rating this so high. It’s really not good.

Tristen O'Briant So I read the first part of your comment and literally laughed out loud.... it’s me, I’m the first time thriller reader that loved this book, now shamefully lol! I typically read historical and contemporary fiction but a friend mentioned this one and I read it in like 4-5 hours because it was so fast paced! The ending definitely could have been better, but I did actually really enjoy it!

Nicole The ending 🙄

message 43: by Mary (new) - added it

Mary First half okay. Second half WTF. Ending ridiculous.

message 44: by Jessica (new) - added it

Jessica Edward, you have to be 13 to sign up for a goodreads account.

message 45: by Jessica (new) - added it

Jessica In addition, Edward, I have no idea why you’re bringing up the president or rubber bullets, but I think it has to do with free speech? And he tried because he’s an idiot.

message 46: by EA (new) - rated it 2 stars

EA Totally agree.

theactivesquirrel I’ve just finished chapter one and I don’t like it. I went back to good reads to double check the reviews and why I selected this book. This book is a NOPE. Maybe if I have time I’ll attempt to read more.

message 48: by Jelena (new) - added it

Jelena Petrović I think I just realized the plot from this comment. So if it's what I think it is, I won't read it, it sucks!

Renee Lee Totally agree

Vicky Mahoney I hated this book and knew I hated it and just tried to keep pushing through just to get over it lol. This review nailed it
