it was amazing

This story hit home with me. I love it. When I was younger my hair was much more wild and difficult to tame and keep in check. It was curly and kinky and a whole lot of fun. I did love it. As I have aged, I have lost the kink and many of the curls and my hair is easy to tame know. I still love my hair, but I miss the volume I used to have.

This little girl has some great hair. She loves to shape it into different ways depending on what she is doing and how she feels. She can put it in puffs and be a superhero, or she can braid it and have a fancy tea party. She loves her wonderful hair and her family has what they call hair love. Her dad is amazing and he can help her style her hair. She is trying to get the perfect shape for her mommy. They figure it out in time and it’s perfect.

I find this a sweet little story of family love. The artwork is wonderful and a hint of magic dust thrown in. It’s perfect for who I am as a reader and fan.

My nephew is not into the magical realism that I love so much. This was just a girl and it was all about hair, no monster, no robots, no potty humor. Now, my nephew has some great hair too. He likes to leave it a little long and he gets this Einstein look. I love it. Now, his daddy doesn’t and he always likes to chop it off. I am with the nephew and I like that wild look. It goes with his personality. But, that was not enough for my nephew to connect with the characters. He gave the story 2 stars. He might not like them, but I have to keep trying new things with him.

Petra in Tokyo My hair used to take 8 hours to dry. Now I can do it in the shower and go out an hour or two later. It's so sad...

Yeah, change can be rough to accept.

Hair, not being able to lose weight easily and my vision..... these are very rough to accept. The rest is ok, or better than ok.

Getting old is not for the faint of heart.

Since I am very faint of heart I have decided not to get old. Luckily I look 10 years younger (my skin has scarcely aged and bits of me have not yet given into gravity) and have a lot of energy, so I just accept their are changes, as there always have been, and lie. A lot. I don't lie to my son (well I couldn't could I?) but everyone else gets an abridged version!

Eventually someone will call me out!

Licha Same here. I had the unruly, curly hair when I was younger. I used to hate it because it got so tangled up even when I had just finished brushing it. People would call me Shirley Temple. Then I learned to love it as I got older, but now it's also not as curly and there is less of it. Wish I could get that volume back also :o(

Mostly though, this book reminds me of my daughter. I give all the credit to my mom for managing my daughter's hair, because unlike the dad here, I sort of gave up and relied on my mom to care for it. Yeah, that was pretty bad of me.

Great stories and I'm sure there'll be a time you have hair duty for a reason. Curly hair must be managed. I too didn't like it as much as a kid, how silly.

Licha I read somewhere you're not supposed to brush curly hair. You're supposed to finger-comb it so the natural curl keeps its bounce and spring. I just can't see how you could get away with doing that daily for fear that the curls would start to knot together, but since then I have wondered if that's why the curl starts to lose its waviness over time.

Thinking about this reminds me of a cousin I had who had extremely unruly curly hair and everytime she showered she would only brush the top layer because she hated brushing out her hair. Sure enough, her hair was a knotted mess under the top layer and she had to have her hair cut really short so that the knots could be removed, so I truly don't see how a curly head could get away from being brushed.

Carmenn Sandiego This is a very White review, with rather a lot of White comments as well.

Licha, several hairdressers told me to use a pick to get through the hair. Also, brush it when you have conditioned it as it makes it easy to brush and to keep the curls. When braiding, don't use a brush, pull the hair apart. It's different.

Licha I've lost the curl over the years. It's more wavy than curly now. I had a hard time brushing it when I was younger, I can't imagine how much harder it would be to do it with a pick. As soon as you brush one section it's already a tangled mess. Curly hair was a real headache for me back in the day.
