2.5 STARS.
Would you marry a man who has two more wives? Would you accept that on other days of the week, your husband spends his time with his other wives? 😱
📚 "𝐈 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝𝐧’ 𝐰𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐈 𝐝𝐨. 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐚 𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧? 𝐀 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐥𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐚𝐲. 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐝𝐨 𝐈 𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫?" 📚
The plot deals with polygamy and is full of secrets, manipulations and lies. The story is written from Thursday's point of view (yes, her name is Thursday) - Seth's second wife who agreed and accepted that arrangement - to share him with two other women, whom she never met, according to her husband's demands. 💍
However, everything changes when one day Thursday discovers something disturbing about Seth's third wife and decides to go on a search for the truth, but nothing has prepared her for the disturbing things she discovers... 💣💣💣
I LOVE Tarryn Fisher, she always writes about flawed characters in a perfect way, but... I didn't like this book. 😭
If I only rated the first half, I would give it 4.5 stars. Although the plot was a bit slow, I was curious and had a lot of possible scenarios in mind... 😱
In the second half, the "Tarryn affect" kicked in, just the way I like it - but instead of the plot developing and my interests growing... it became predictable, unreliable and stereotypically irritating! 😬
Why?
1. It's hard for me to enjoy a book when I don't like any of the characters: I didn't like Thursday, she constantly contradicted herself and I couldn't believe anything she said. (In one chapter she said one thing... and a few chapters after, did just the opposite... 😬). Plus, the other women were weak and full of unflattering stereotypes. 💥
2. I liked how Tarryn showed the complexity in a polygamous relationship - the jealousy and the need to always be the center of attention - but I couldn't understand why all three of them wanted Seth to begin with... It was a minor detail in the plot, but it bother me that I didn't understand it, even after I finished reading. 😭
3. I guessed the twist quickly but hoped (begged, prayed to the God of Books! 🙏) that Tarryn would surprise me... unfortunately, that wasn't the case. I will not reveal the twist, I'll just say that I really don't like when it's used as an explanation for the characters' actions, because from an important and sensitive issue - it becomes negative. 💥
4. THE END!!! It really annoyed me, Gah! There were holes in the plot and lots of unresolved parts (for example, Thursday's strange relationship with her father) 😱
5. Because of the ending, I didn't understand the purpose of the book. There were no lessons learned - except that... bad people do really bad things to each other.
Umm, DAHHH...? 😂😂😂
Although I did not liked this book, I do recommend it to anyone who wants to try psychological thrillers for the first time... I guess they will find this book refreshing. 💥
