it was amazing

[4.5] Reading Hamnet was for me an intense, transportive experience. There is an immediacy to the writing and setting - I kept thinking - so this is what life felt like in the late 1500s! Each sentence is threaded so gorgeously that sometimes I felt saturated, needing to come up for air. O'Farrell pulled me in to the world of Agnes and her love and grief and I am still partly there.

Jenna ❤ ❀ ❤ A beautiful review, Lisa! I'm glad you enjoyed this so much.

Kathleen Love your review. O'Farrell does an excellent job of communicating the grief parents feel when they lose a child. Very emotional.

Judith E I thought this was a terrific piece of writing considering the lack of factual information of the characters.

Bianca Beautiful review, Lisa. Being transported somewhere else is one of the best things about reading.

Dianne What a lovely review, Lisa.

Candi Wonderful review, Lisa. It's a great feeling when the author draws you right into a story like this :)

Jennifer Welsh Beautiful review, Lisa - feeling saturated, needing to come up for air. I felt that way with other O’Farrell books, but this one lost me in the middle. I may want to try again...

Debbie Powerful little review; really get the idea of how immersive the story was for you. I liked this book a lot, but didn't love it like I did a couple of other books by her. Were you an O'Farrell fan before you read this one?

Lisa (NY) Debbie - Oh yes, I'm an O'Farrell fan and was prompted to read some of her backlist because of you. If I had a pogo stick I would jump high about her. The only one I haven't read is her first novel, which I may skip.

Ha, glad I had something to do with your love of O'Farrell. I haven't read a couple of hers, and might skip them also because they aren't rated as highly as others. I would love it if she wrote another memoir of sorts. Her style slays me; the best language ever, weaving such fine stories!

Barbara Sounds powerful, Lisa.
