I am mad and sad.

The minute this book was announced, I was so excited. And then I read the reviews and the synopsis and I was so, so SOOOOOOO excited. As soon as my library purchased this book, the problems started. I accidentally returned it (long story) and instantly put myself at the back of the digital line.
Fast forward six weeks later and the book finally arrived and I dived in. After a while, I started to realize that I wasn't having that much fun. This wasn't totally the books fault but I'm starting to outgrow cliche romances. I enjoyed them (and still do) but I've reached a point where I wish for something more and this book didn't totally deliver... AT FIRST.
I loved the discussion of happy endings in romance and why they don't work but it wasn't covered as much as I wanted to be and I REALLY wanted it to be. I did appreciate the father-daughter relationship but it wasn't what I was here for. I am not in any way saying it's not important. It is and I know it will touch many readers. It just wasn't my thing.
That said, I adored the last 20 minutes. Had the entire book been as romantic, genuine, and fun due to the acknowledgment of the bookish community, this book would have been an easy 5 stars and an all-time-favorite. But it wasn't so, sadly, I am sticking this with a 2-star rating.
It was a 3 star book but I am taking an entire star off simply because of how sad and disappointed I felt after finishing this. excuse me while I go scream with eternal sadness for the rest of my life.
Bottom Line:
2 stars
Age Rating - [ R ]
Content Screening (Mild Spoilers)

Drinking/Drugs (2/5) - [Alcohol consumption]
Content and Trigger Warnings - Divorce, Cheating, Depression, Anxiety, Sex scenes, Self-hatred

in all seriousness, i've heard this book is funny, creative, and decently steamy and i need it.
