This was fun and cute and sweet and heartbreaking. Loved the use of footnotes; I'm beginning to grow fond of the use of footnotes - they seem to add that little extra something to a story. But, only if they're humorous footnotes. Dry, dusty footnotes are unnecessary everywhere but textbooks.
This was also a royal bummer. Because, SOME OF US have The Hound of the Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle on our To Be Read lists because it's on THE LIST and SOME OF US like to go into a story without biased expectations - especially a MYSTERY novel. And, SOME OF US are diligent about taking SPOILER ALERT precautions where necessary. It's a common courtesy, as far as I am concerned. AND THIS BOOK contained exactly zero spoiler alerts about the fact that Christoper (our main character) essentially tells us EVERYTHING that happens in Doyle's famous story complete with thorough analyses of each plot point, each clue, each red herring...
Pardon the above dramatic usage of capital letters and bold font. That was a minor pet peeve which momentarily got the better of me. I'm OK now.
One final note, which I mentioned in my status updates, and feel compelled to reiterate. Siobhan was right. Nobody wants to read what he put in the appendix. Except maybe math majors like Nicolle. I bet she not only read, but understood the appendix.
