did not like it

Don't waste your time! And don't let your teen read it. I kept reading to the bitter end of this book hoping that suddenly it would all come together in a glorious flash of beautiful, meaningful allegory that would make all the crap worth it. Not even. I was just really mad when I was done that I'd wasted so much time on it hoping that it'd pull through.

Not only did it delve into the kinky, it was just plain boring and didn't make sense to me.

If you're interested in it because of the broadway musical, don't bother either. The only similarity between the musical and this book are the basic identities of the characters. The storylines aren't even the same.

Rachel Robins Hi Jen, Thanks for the good advice, I've been debating on this one and now I know not to bother. I appreciate these kinds of reviews, it saves me time!!

Frankenfeld Jen, you put into words exactly how I felt about this stupid book. The musical was much better.

I couldn't connect to anything about this book. Nothing made sense. What was purpose of that elephant scene, anyway?

Sofia I agree. I kept waiting and waiting for something meaningful. Then nothing. Bucket of water and it's over.

Deanna I got all the way through 3 chapters and decided that life was too short to waste on this book.

Ramona Flowers Sadly I discovered this the hard way.. At least it looks pretty green on my bookshelf. The edition is pretty but, the complements only get this far.

Allison James I strongly disagree. I loved this book. Youre right about the play and book being very different. The play was made for idiots, the book was written to challenge minds. Don't say a book was boring if you are not the type of person who likes being challenged when you're reading a book! And I read this when I was... hmm around 19/20... its perfectly fine to read if you're a teenager. Elphaba was a character with passion and strife and yearnings! She was a martyr and worked against dictatorship. It had all elements of mystery and thriller and political intrigue. I also liked all of Maguire's follow up books to this.

Brenda I'm halfway through this one and I dispose not finishing a book I start, but this one may make the short list if books I dump

Katye Wood My sentiments exactly. I kept hoping it would have something redeeming in it. It did not. Wish I could un-read it.

Miranda Joyce I read Wicked when I was 17 and rather enjoyed it. I liked having a story from the wicked witch's point of view. There's two sides to every story and all too often we only get one side. As for not letting your teen read it I would rather my daughter read Wicked than to read Twilight.

Much like real life, there is no allegory, and death is meaningless. I'm not surprised you didn't like it, if you only read for escapism.

Angela Benoit I tried to read it....a couple times. I finally just got the Audible version to listen to when I had windshield time. It still took me MONTHS to finish. I just couldn't get into it. I felt it was monotonous, rambling and frankly bizarre. I just really really did not enjoy it even a little....
