4.5 stars!
A creepy, chilling and intense tale about the unsolved disappearance of a girl from a spooky motel, and her niece who tried to solve the mystery.
1982, Vivian Delaney was working as a night clerk at the Sun Down Motel in Fell, NY, where something wasn't quite right. She disappeared into thin air, leaving an unsolved mystery...
2017, Vivian's niece Carly arrives in Fell looking for answers. But as Carly gets the same job working the night shift that her aunt worked, she finds herself getting sucked into the same mysteries that drew her aunt in.
OMG I loved this! The creepy atmosphere of the seedy roadside Sun Down Motel, frankly terrified me, it was a fantastic setting for a story! I was completely immersed in the The Sun Down Motel, it had me by the throat! I was so tense reading it, and felt this sense of impending doom, which made my heart race, and my palms sweat! I couldn't read it at night, I had to take deep breaths, and put the book down frequently! I am a total wimp, I admit it, but I just couldn't stay away from this book!

Ahh it was so eerie! I loved the way that Simone St. James wove the supernatural seamlessly into this intriguing mystery/thriller. It was genuinely terrifying and chilling experiencing the paranormal through Vivian, and I could just sense the danger as I was reading. I also felt so scared for both Viv and Beth, as they worked the nightshift at that creepy place, they were both so vulnerable.
The dual POV of Viv from 1982, and Carly in 2017 worked so well for me, it was so well written, and it was great how the two timelines came together. I was also really into the 1980's vibe, and Carly's take on it all in 2017! And that cover??

I know I say this a lot, but someone really should make the movie of this! It played out like a film in my mind as I read it, and I felt like I was actually there with the girls in the pitch black. I could hear the doors bang open, and hear the ice machine click. I could smell the cigarette smoke. I got chills up my spine, and had such a bad feeling!
I didn't give it the full five stars, as I felt the ending was slightly rushed. I also got the girls timelines confused at some parts, since Carly was mirroring Viv's life in Fell, so it was at times very similar. Although, I see why the author wrote it like that.
Overall, this was a fantastic book, which I really enjoyed/was terrified of, and I do really recommend it! I am definitely looking up Simone St. James's other books, starting with The Broken Girls.
Many thanks to Edelweiss and Berkley for making this digital ARC available for download!
