Surely a modern classic in the making. The search for an Eden in Thailand. The adventure. And what happens in Eden? Multi level book with the quest for and concept of how little untouched virgin lands remains in the world. A society outside of authority how will civilisation be maintained? What are the rules? Every writer's dream, a spectacular debut novel! 8 out of 12, Four Star read.

I do remember that Mike :)

The Human Race is a parasite!

I am among the very few who hasn't watched the movie yet. Good to know that the book is worth a try, Baba. :)

Thanks for reading and commenting Rosh, you have raised an issue that does not sit well with me. I think developing world tourism needs to be completely err-imagined as I feel it has been more damaging in the medium to long-term for a lot of countries.

I get the obsession with movie covers by marketers, but they should not forget us book people!

It was indeed, a very young Dicaprio :)

I agree, Baba. It is certainly not done with a malevolent intent, but sometimes I feel like these places were better off without getting the mileage from books or movies. At least they were pure. Insta travel influencers have made matters worse with their doctored photographs of unknown locales that make tourists rush there in anticipation.
It's not just at the global level though. Even within India, we have this problem. There was an amazing waterfall here called Dudhsagar falls. When I first visited it in 2007, it was serene and clean. But a Bollywood movie used the location for shooting the climax scene, and today, Dudhsagar is a mess of clutter and tourists. Tourism and tourists both need to be more responsible about their footprint, carbon or otherwise. :(

This is so sad Rosh, especially as fundamentally local businesses and people are just as much to blame, the world needs to start looking at how to maintain 'sustainable low-impact tourism' in my opinion.

I know that feeling sometime you really need to convey what you felt about a good read :)
