Could have been a very dry book, but the author did a good job of moving the story along, although action is not a word to describe this biography. I learned a number of things about J.R.R. Tolkien that I never knew before. One was his friendship with C.S. Lewis, the author of the Narnia series; that his profession and passion centered around philology and mythology, and that he was without a father in his life. A little bit of history thrown in as Tolkien was born in 1892.

Worth the read if you love Tolkien and Middle Earth.
